I have a 2008 Gibson Slash Les Paul in tobacco burst the one that was made in a limited number of 1600. I cannot find what gauge the stock strings are on this particular model. I know he prefers 11s but when I looked up the Gibson spec page on this model it did not list the strings. If anyone knows the answer to the above question or has a link I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Standard strings from Gibson are 10's, don't know if they put specific strings on for sig guitars though.

You can usually tell the string gauge just by looking at and playing them. Are you shooting for "Slash tone"?

Not really going for Slash's tone as much I had the guitar set up by a luthier and he said the intonation needed adjustment. He asked me what gauge strings were on the guitar I said I thought 11s he said they felt like 10s or 9s. He said the intonation was set up for the current gauge of strings. So thats what brought me to ask the original question of what gauge strings came stock on the guitar?

Thanks

Think it will be 10`s, as with the rest of the LP range. But as setting the intonation is a relatively easy job, I would go with what you like.

By the way, the 10`s on LP feel like the 9`s on my Strat, which is in line with the feedback your received form your Tech (10`s or 9`s). For me, that's absolutely perfect.

All the best.

Yes its the first setup on the guitar. I bought it used but the original owner bought and stuck it under the bed and never played it. He only took it out to take pictures of it when he was forced to sell it.

Thanks

If you still have the original strings, get the luthier or some store to measure the gauge of the high E-string with a vernier, if you don't have one yourself.

His original guitar that he recorded Appetite for Destruction with (and his #1 recording guitar since) was made by a guy named Kris Derrig, who passed away at some time in the 90's. Do a google search for him and you're bound to find more information than you ever wanted. :slash:

There used to be a website dedicated to him (http://www.krisderrig.com) but it's been down for a while.

Yes, Gibson logos. They were hand made replicas, so they were probably able to make and sell them without much risk of legal action from Gibson in those days, plus they weren't mass produced.

So far as I know Slash has 2 Derrigs and another replica made by a guy named Max Baranet. Rumor has it that Charlie Daniels owns a Derrig made around the same time and from the same batch of wood as Slash's #1.

For reference, here is Slash's:

Check out the May 2010 Guitar World CD with video of Slash discussing his AFD guitars and rig as well as giving a Paradise City lesson.
