I don't think we are alowed to state names of store on this site. but it was in WA. Its got a fretboard streak - thats the whole reason no one wanted it. Despite the fact that soundwise it blew the rest of them away - weird.

That is pretty cheap for that R8.

I just got my Faded Tobacco Burst R9 for AU$6299 at a guitar shop in Sydney on Sat. Pretty good discount on the RRP I think. I would have paid up to $10,000 for it though, since I just fell in love with it the moment I saw and played it. It also has some woodgrain on the fretboard, but that was something I was looking for. It sounds amazing, better than any guitar I have ever played, and compared to all the R8's and R9's and R0's in the store. I thought it sounded just as good as the Jimmy Page model they had there.

Unfortunately I am still paying it off as I had to lay-by it. I will post some pictures when I finally get it.

Meladora-that's a great price for a new historic here in Oz.Cheapest i've been able to get is $6800.Was the shop Gallins in Annandale?Just curious-they are owned by the Gibson distributor. The pro shop here in Brissy is owned by the distributor, and they are by far the cheapest on historics.Hmmm...may have been the pro shop in Sydney???I'll be looking for those pics when you get it-there would'nt be many tobacco R9's here.

The black with red interior is the standard Custom Shop case. My new R8 (bought it yesterday, bringin' it home next payday) came with the same one.

Ooops!
I was just checking out the photos I took the other day and noticed it's a black Custom Shop case with a black interior.

Yeah, it was Gallins. They were really friendly and didn't charge me anything extra for the layby, even though they still have to pay insurance on the guitar since it is still on their premises.

I am not sure if they are owned by the distributor, but I think they are as I just checked their site and they list one of their stores as the Musician's Pro Shop in Brisbane, so check what the lowest price they can give you is. They have a whole load of Historics there and other Gibsons too, and I know they do ship stuff.

I will post the pics when I get it. I have been having dreams about it for the last few nights.

I'm in the exact same boat as you right now. My R8 is 80% paid for, waiting until payday and the other 20% to bring her home.

Gallins is owned by a guy called Con Gallin. He also owns AMI-Australian Music Imports.AMI is the sole distributor for Gibson in Australia. He also owns the Musicians Pro Shop chain of stores.I've bought most of my historics from the pro shop in Brissy.I always get a good deal.Dream on Bro...

Here is my '02 R8.I think the retail was also around $13000.After a couple of years it dropped down around $7500.I put it on layby late last year for $4100.I got a new old stock Historic LP for a bargain! It still has the little 'Washed Cherry' sticker on the guard.

Th eR8's were dearer back then because there was no discrepencies between the R8's and R9's/R0's. they had falme, as you can see and the same quality woods. since then the R9/0's receive generally slightler higher quality wood and the R8's don't get flame. Also the Aussie dollar went through the roof, it is now dropping so expect a price rise again over the next year or so.

My G0 came with the CS black case too.

But at least the COA was the nifty passport sized with the hard back, unlike the paper diploma style that came with my 68 RI.
