I have a '98 Les Paul Standard and I was wondering if someone could give some specs, it's all bone stock, Grover tuners, I think it has a 1959 profile neck, not sure. Any info would be great, oh yeah, what about production #'s? Are there a ton of them out there? Anything special about this one, or just a run of the mill, which is fine, just curious....
Thanks all!

Came with 498T bridge pickup and 490R neck pickup. The stock volume pots are 300k. I always switch them out to 500k. The neck isn't really a 1959 profile. It was just the stock profile that they used at the time. Similar to today's '50s style but not exactly the same.

Is that a good thing, neck wise? What seems to be the neck of choice?
The same with Grovers, good/bad, or desirable should I say?

The neck of choice is whatever YOU like to play.

For some reason it feels "better" than my '89 Custom did, were there issues in the late '80's that were resolved by the late '90's, or is it just me?

There were no issues in the late '80s. Not all guitars feel the same. It's as simple as that. It's a product manufactured from wood which is not a stable medium to work with. There could be a thousand reasons why one guitar is "the one" and another isn't. Someone else may think just the opposite about the same two instruments. LOL. :)

What about long/short tenon, is it chambered, swiss cheese, weight relieved?

Short tenon. It is weight relieved meaning Swiss Cheese. Chambering didn't start until sometime in 2007 and those Standards turned into a totally redesigned guitar.

I'm not sure if it was 1968 or after that. Check out the sticky at the top of the page titled "Les Paul 101". It answers many, many questions. I would look it up myself but have to run out soon. :)
