anyone have real experience with these? I found one for $390 shipped w/ case looks in good shape. Comparing sticker locations/TRC and headstock its a 89 MIK epi standard

How do these hold up to the 2020s?

In my limited experience, older doesn’t mean better when talking Epiphone Les Pauls. I’d look for a near new Epiphone for the same cost. My opinion. Good luck guitar shopping.

Yep, looks like an '89. These are sought after for their Gibson like headstock. You might get a 2020 that will be better in some ways, but this one has a nostalgic appeal and will keep its value. Considering it comes with a hard case, I find the price OK. If the sticker on the back is still there, it hasn't been played a lot, so frets must be close to new.

I would call the store and ask to see if you can get it for less. No harm in asking.

I had a couple of 89's, a Standard and a Gold Top. Both nice guitars although I replaced the tuners with Grovers and both of the bridges with Gotoh. The fretwork, particulerly on the GT were very nicely finished. Both guitars played and sounded great.

Sales guy called me. He explained it was a 1 owner guitar. A older guy traded it in and had it since '89. Im not super into sports but apparently a pittsburgh steeler gave him the sticker way back then and he put it on the PG
