Hi there,

I'm going to buy a good condition 1988 les paul standard in tobacco burst all original. The seller asks me about $2700. Is it the fair price?

Thanks for your comment in advance.

Wow! In my country, thailand. A used newer les paul costs about $2000 already. (Brand new is about $2500) I think I have to look around the ads here. Thanks for your comment. Appreciated!

You know the newer Les Pauls (2008+) are chambered, right? You may like that or not. I do, but some don't. Have you actually played the 1998? That's a high price if you're in the USA, but I have no idea of what these guitars are selling for in Thailand. My only advice on Les Pauls is to play before you buy. I picked up a used 2008 Standard for $1500 in the US, but I'm going to put in another $500 in pickups and 50s wiring, but I test drove the guitar and loved how it played, so your mileage may vary based on many variables.

In flawless (mint) condition, it's worth $1,800 according to Fjestad. A "good" condition (meaning it shows some wear and tear) 1988 Standard is worth $725.

Guys, try and think outside the box. Not everyone lives in the US and not every country has the same prices on used gear.

To the OP. I'm not sure how it works in Thailand but if I were to buy one in the US for $1600 it would probably cost me about $500 to bring it in legitimately with freight, customs, GST etc. That being said, I would offer around $2000 saying that I can get one from the US for not much more and there is a lot more choice doing it that way.

Not sure what the import rules and regulations are for you though.

The price is more higher than China
1981 Custom need 3000usd in China
1990,1991 Standard need 2400usd.
Gibson is more expensive in other country, but 2700 is too high, bro.
So to a chinese, you like Gibson sounds means you need to pay a lot of many than a American.what about Thailand?

I haven't looked at what a round trip to California from Thailand costs, but if it is around a grand, I'd kill two birds with one stone.

Was it a custom? Because I bought my 88 standard tobacco new with case $780. Receipt is still in the case LoL
Yeah it's an old thread........2012...... but i agree with your purchase price. I bought a brand new Standard in 1984.... it was $700 out the door in a chainsaw case. I think a Les Paul Custom was $850.

Way too high of a price.....offer $1000 and negotiate!
