Right, they all did not. My '85 also had the knobs in a weird, seemingly wrong location, Ill try to dig up some pics.

I just looked at my very early '84 pre issue and it doesnt have have the deep pot routes, pluse all these early 80's guitars had the metal shielding boxes in them with long shaft pots. Also the the backs were painted in a darker cherry finish..... The neck is all wrong on this as well, these had the smaller inlays. Seems to me to be a pieced together guitar. But as stated before, Gibsons varied so much back then that you really cant say what was standard.
