No it is not chambered but it is probably weight relieved (Swiss cheese holes).

I have a 1983 Custom and it is a fine instrument. If you are interested in any guitar, don't get hung up on all this weight relived or not nonsense. Best thing to do is play it!

Chambering officially started in 2007...unofficially it started in the second half of 2006.

Weight relieving (swiss cheese holes) started in 1983, so it probably is.

I was wondering the same thing about my 83 custom, about 6 months ago the X-Ray guy's at the airport let me watch it on the screen & guess what, solid no holes, I could see everything in the guitar, it was pretty cool, I don't know when they started it in 83 but it wasn't early in the year, I've been seeing that same guitar on Ebay for about a month or more now, looks nice

I have an 83 LP Custom that was a factory Kahler model, the prior owner took out the kahler and put a tone pros bridge and tail piece but left the kahler route empty, the weight is 11.5 pounds, by knocking on the guitar, I think my LP is not weight relieved by the 9 drill holes.
