There is no old or new chips. They have never stopped making them. They are exactly the same.

They are the same thing, literally the same, exact part, +/- their own specified deviations.

Hell, they probably still use the same machines to make them. I know until not long ago it was actually the case with "old" and "new" JRC/NJR4558. Those guys laugh at our lore about electronics. Snake oil gurus will probably disagree, but I reckon most can't even read a datasheet.

Don't know but FWIW I have found the rc4558p to be dirtier, less smooth than jrc4558d in a tubescreamer circuit. Tomato, tomahto.
