I found this guitar for sale near me. The serial number confirms it’s a 74 but it has a 2 piece top. Every other 74 I’ve seen has a 3 piece top. Does anyone own or ever seen a 2 piece top?

I had a '74 with a two-piece

Other people have had 4 and 5 piece tops. Whatever was on the floor... that's what they slapped together.

Eco responsibility...before it was "cool".

Ok thanks
I guess that explains the half flame half plain top

I've seen 4-5 piece tops with 2 pieces of flame and the others plain. Not my cup of tea but does look funky

Would really love to see more of this guitar -- that's quite a top for a run-of-the-mill Norlin era Standard, especially being 2-piece, center-matched. But the pic you've uploaded has a weird, new, satiny look to it like a recent LP Standard Faded or something along those lines. Could be (and probably is) just a trick of lighting/angle and what we see of the case is era-correct, at least.

How much of a premium do you guys think a top like that (assuming this is legit) puts over the normal 3-7 piece topped Standard or the era?

Not a penny. Either someone wants a '74 or they don't.

Well 2 piece top looks better, multi-piece top looks cheap in my opinion.
I wouldn't pay more for it just accounting for the amount of pieces, but if one looks way nicer than the other, your subsconcience might make you pay more for the pretty one anyway

people will pay a little more for a 2 piece center seam, but the amount is really not all that significant.

Agreed, they will pay for the year/model etc. etc.
