At what point in ‘63 did they stop using the Les Paul logo? I just picked up a ‘63 junior with no logo but have seen some ‘63s with them.
I feel like I’ve seen equal numbers of each. So it would seem like it was a mid year switch. Everything I’ve read only says they stopped in 63. No further detail. Though there must also be 63 Les Pauls and SG standards then right?Good question. My '63 Jr has Les Paul on the head stock..
Mine is white and serial 1492xx. Pots date to ‘62. From what I can tell it never said Les Paul on the headstock. Unless it fully disappeared without a trace.Hey, my old thread is back!
Well, lets' try to nail it down.
My 1963 Les Paul Junior was shipped out of the Gibson factory on June the 25th 1963. The serial number is 1207XX. Pot dates 1346321 (Centralabs May 1963)
So the change was probably made soon after that.
New 1963 Les Paul Junior day!
Well, I finally did it. I've been wanting one of these for quite sometime, since playing a few in vintage stores over the years. So, yesterday I bought a very cool 1963 Les Paul Junior! (SG) I was able to sell a bit of gear this past week... Anyway, this one has Centralab pots dated the 21st...www.mylespaul.com
I didn’t even know about that. I don’t have a black light though.Have you tried uv black lighting it to see if there's any silk screening remnants?
On it. Thanks!Oh, too bad. But not a big deal.
Another thing you can do is email Gibson customer service and request a shipping date from their 1963 shipping ledgers. They'll just need your serial number.
This will tell you for a certainty whether yours was originally a Les Paul Junior or an SG Junior. The ledgers recorded that information.![]()
