1961 to 1965 juniors

At what point in ‘63 did they stop using the Les Paul logo? I just picked up a ‘63 junior with no logo but have seen some ‘63s with them.

I feel like I’ve seen equal numbers of each. So it would seem like it was a mid year switch. Everything I’ve read only says they stopped in 63. No further detail. Though there must also be 63 Les Pauls and SG standards then right?

My 1963 Les Paul Junior was shipped out of the Gibson factory on June the 25th 1963. The serial number is 1207XX. Pot dates 1346321 (Centralabs May 1963)

So the change was probably made soon after that.

Mine is white and serial 1492xx. Pots date to ‘62. From what I can tell it never said Les Paul on the headstock. Unless it fully disappeared without a trace.

I didn’t even know about that. I don’t have a black light though.

Another thing you can do is email Gibson customer service and request a shipping date from their 1963 shipping ledgers. They'll just need your serial number.

This will tell you for a certainty whether yours was originally a Les Paul Junior or an SG Junior. The ledgers recorded that information.

So, I was looking at lot's of for sale and sold 1963 Les Paul Juniors, and the latest serial number I've found is 129045.

Anyone else know of a later serial numbered '63? (With the Les Paul Junior silk screen)

My 63jr has a slightly thicker and wider neck than my 62 custom. I like them both.

My 63 Jnr is 1239xx with the Les Paul script.

Doesn't add anything to the intel, but this is a cool thread.

I wonder how Standards and Customs fit into the LP changeover timeline? Maybe there's been a previous thread on the subject?

My 62 Jr (with Les Paul script) is serial 60XXX.

Neck has a chunkier feel to it - I had read that many of the 61-62's were wide/thin, definitely not mine. One of the greatest necks I've ever played, very similar to a 59 carve. Light as a feather...

These are the most incredible guitars, and seriously undervalued/under-appreciated by the collector market (IMO).

Locally a 63 Junior popped up for sale.. with the wiggle stick still in tact.. after a little digging online it was sold at one point on reverb about 6 years ago... the guy who’s selling it now has a packing card from CME possibly from where he bought it from.. or the owner before him did.. old reverb listings doesn’t show up for that transaction but it could of been just an in store purchase....

What’s the going rate for these now days? It’s not pristine but in good shape still.. here’s some photos from its current owner

Man, that's a very nice looking (possibly 1962) Les Paul Junior! I wouldn't be surprised if it had 1962 pot dates.

I don't know what these go for through a private seller, but lots of dealers are looking for $4000 - 5000, I believe...

Well I may end up putting up some stuff for sale in the classifieds to stir up some cash to scoop it up... at the price they want for it locally.. there wouldn’t be a ton of risk in it provided it all seems legit in person

Even if it needs a refret it’s priced right I think... never had a vintage gibson as of yet
