Hey All – What are the differences between a Custom Shop 1960 Les Paul Special Single Cutaway and an R4?

I have a 2006 Custom Shop 1960 Les Paul Special Single Cutaway - twin P90s, wraparound tailpiece, the 50s rounded neck profile, etc. which are for me, an incredible combination.

I've never played an R4 though, and lately, I've been GAS-ing for one.

So I wondered - what are the differences between these two great, Historic guitars?

I know about the binding, arched top, and inlays of course, and I'm especially interested any differences in the neck profile, pickups, and overall sound.

Thanks in advance!

Well,

I have many R4's in different combinations....and last fall traded a guitar for a 60 Special SC. I have been going back and forth....on which guitar to take to the gigs lately. I think due to weight, the Specail wins. it's not that the R4's are that heavy...but for what I have been doing...an R8 is my Humbucker guitar, the 60 Special, and a Nocaster Tele is covering the bases....sound of the two guitars is similar, and the Special seems to have less shoulders....

I hope that helps,

Mark
