I've noticed the of all the vintage LPs I've ever seen, the one's with the worst tuner tips, were the ones played by people with really sweaty hands.
It's not so much that they are sweaty, it's that their sweat is acidic. I had a customer years ago that was always trading guitars. Any guitar that he had would get would see dramatic hardware degradation is DAYS! If he had a guitar a week all of the bridge screws would be completely rusted....it really creeped me out!

It definitely varied with each guitarist.
