I've noticed the of all the vintage LPs I've ever seen, the one's with the worst tuner tips, were the ones played by people with really sweaty hands.

It's not so much that they are sweaty, it's that their sweat is acidic. I had a customer years ago that was always trading guitars. Any guitar that he had would get would see dramatic hardware degradation is DAYS! If he had a guitar a week all of the bridge screws would be completely rusted....it really creeped me out! :laugh2:

It definitely varied with each guitarist.

I've always loved black LPs with white plastic and chrome hardware :D

how do they explain totally mint/prestine LPs, that have spent the majority of their 50-60+ years in their cases, with absolutely no signs of degredation?:hmm:

Got an example or 2 of '59-'60 Les Pauls with intact tips ('58 and earlier tuners had the better plastic)? Replaced tuner tips are so common it's hard to tell - I've seen very few intact new-looking original 1959 tuner tips. I have seen some pretty good looking late '60 double-ring tuner tips theoretically made of the same plastic.

Eric - you are on to something with your G-tuner observation and people's personal chemistry. But after 30-40-50+ years it seems nearly all Burst tuners are affected.

my 1955 gold top's original tuners are spotless. But I've played a 54 junior who's tuners were crumbling off. I don't really know if they used a different material or ?

Saw Joe B in Houston last night and he was incredible.
Third song into his electric set he shows up with a Black LP standard that looked just like the picture above.
Joe, did you snatch that bad boy up already?
Great show and keep up doing what your doing.

I believe that was the guitar in this thread. I don't think Joe bought it. It is in good hands in Houston with its new owner. :thumb:
