Pretty cool...but, definitely NOT "$295,000" cool.

One thing that stands out though ist if you look at the top, near the control knobs, you can actually see some of the ripples in the flamed maple "in" the finish.:thumb:

Yes, just had a look at that. You can also see red bleeding into the binding, especially near the strap button, maybe they over sprayed a finished burst?

Pretty cool...but,

"but" what? how could that be any cooler ? A spotless, one-owner, under-the-bed 1960 standard with a one-off factory finish and full documentation...

I'm not certain that they come any "cooler" as far as museum guitars go. Tack that thing up in the Louvre

the only "but" about it to me is: play it at your peril lest you scratch it :p

I'd wager, with the red dye leeching into the binding as it is, that they grabbed a partially-finished burst from the line and fogged it black.

May not be a sunburst finish on the top under that black overcoat, but the back would probably reveal a reddish color if someone removed the backplates and looked close enough.

:hmm:You know the rumor is that Beano was refinished in black after it was stolen and had a slim neck.......:laugh2:

you know i was thinking the same thing ! and they even covered up Beano's identifiable fretboard inlays with those little pieces of cardboard to hide the Truth ! :wow:

:squint: what dastardly villains !

now I wonder which forum member will start suggesting how to remove that black factory finish and restore this spotless untouched documented one-of-a-kind to look like a standard guitar center burst ?

or when they are already spotless, are we supposed to restore them back into being trees ? I've been holding onto a box of ancient growth Honduran bark & leaves for just such a job. :hippie:

When they are THAT rare...you can put any price on it. If it is too much, go find another. :naughty: :fingersx:

Agree...but rare does not always equal desired. Not saying that applies here but some thing to keep in mind.

+ 1. Oh my, :wow: :wow: is that Rare or what?

I am sure others may exist but I have never seen this before.

Looks stellar. :thumb:

I wonder what is under that Black Nitro? Would be interesting to see the cavity shots of the Maple they used just out of interest.

Stunning guitar.

Jesus, that thing is clean(!) Could be the benchmark for "mint". Oughta add to the price significantly, sure would if it was a standard finish, and a custom color to boot...

it wouldn't be on my buy list, even for a considerably lower price. Its an interesting find, but not so appealing, to me anyway.

Just because it's rare, doesn't mean that it's going to go for anymore than a regular '60 'burst. Even '60s 'bursts aren't moving for that much.

Now, if it were a GT, then maybe we'd be talking some serious coin (most likely in the high $100K's)?:naughty:

As for my "but", IMHO, it's cool for what it is (an atypical '60 Standard), not because it's "rare".

I disagree. Goldtops are boring. Lol
