Thanks everyone for your input. I do like the Red on JJN's 53 but I am leaning towards the Gold with some aging and checking.
Good plan, b o g! Good plan!
(I had a gold top Deluxe back in the '70s...sold it, had seller's remorse...I can only imagine what it looks like now...)

One more vote for Goldtop restoration :thumb: since you asked.

Cardinal red, nicely aged, looks pretty killer, too...

But I'm a Goldtop man! They're my favorite! Followed closely by Ebony Customs.

Amazing guitar, regardless of the route you take with it. Congratulations!!

:cheers2:

If the red will allow some of the wood grain to bleed through and show off that wood lol be priceless.

To me, the Cardinal red looks great. Also, the trapeze tail is unplayable as it is: you can’t do palm mute for instance. If I had to revamp it from scratch, I would either replace it by the MojoAxe version that includes a wrap over compensated tail piece. Or replace it with a wrap over StopBar. My 2 cts…
It's a '53 so has the wrapover stopbar.

Yeah, right there with you...
To the OP, you HAVE stripped it already, tho, so there's no going back to the original tarnished gold top?

Cardinal Red. There are plenty of other original P90 goldtops to look at.
