I just picked up a 1x15 cab and would like speaker recommendations .
I had a 1x15 cab with a Fane Pop 60 a few years ago and loved that.
Whats good?

The old amp and cab.

I just A/B-ed a JBL D130 and Eminence Legend 1518 in a 5E3 clone and preferred the Emi.
It was, though, not a D130F and has a smooth cone.

The D130 and D130F will sound pretty much the same. The only difference were mechanical ones intended to improve durability. The D130 is not suitable for guitar.

:shock::shock:
I've read some absurd things on guitar bulletin boards, but, ladies and gentlemen...we have a winner!

Charlie, not quite as absurd as you might think. If you knew the history of the D130 and D130F you would likely agree with me.

It's not the tone/voicing of the D130 that is a problem. The problem is that they are too fragile a speaker. They were not up to the rigors of a guitar amplifier. JBL designer Harvey Gerst made a couple of changes to the D130 and thus created the D130F. If I remember correctly he widened the voice coil gap and reinforced the surround.

Both the D130 and D130F are incredible speakers, but the D130 was inclined detonate when used in a guitar amp.

I hear that!
I think Dickie Dale blew them up regularly, but I've been pushing them pretty hard in 15-30 watt amps for years without grenading them.

See if you can find an old (or repro) Altec Lansing 418. Best 15" I've used for guitar.
