So I'm new to mij les paul style guitars...

Quite often the same guitar can be found listed on Reverb or USA eBay for up to double the Immediate Decision price in its simultaneous Yahoo Japan listing. I bought my Aria LS600 for USD 400 on Yahoo Japan that was also on eBay for about USD 800.

Greco Les Paul Custom without serial

Similarly, I've got both Cort and Fujigen ones. The thicker logo font and the deep-vee "open-book" mark this one out as Cort, as would "blingey" inlay and a brick-like nut if the nut were still original (thanks go to Roxy and Wulfman for educating me). I have been monitoring prices on Yahoo...

    NGD: 1980 Greco EG 700

Maybe I shoulda packed my Yamaha Super R'n'Roller for this trip instead * SLAP! * Owww!!!. No, I shall stop being a wimp, and anyway, the LS needs fretwork, for which I'll find a luthier while I'm here in NZ.

    NGD: 1980 Greco EG 700

What year/model is the Aria? I have a 1978 LS600 which I brought with me while in 14-day quarantine right now, and I'm finding myself wishing I had packed a wide shoulder strap rather than a standard-width one.

    NGD: 1980 Greco EG 700

Like this, you mean? This is a screenshot of a '77 EG700 on Yahoo Japan right now. Numbers (from what can be seen) appear consistent with his pots, and mine.

    NGD: 1980 Greco EG 700

Your pots look original to me, too. Hard to tell for sure, but their numbers seem to resemble mine. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the Greco LPs got black paint until 1990, on the ones made by Cort in Korea. I think the Terada ones lacked shielding, as did all the Fujigen ones...

#2000 wet&dry, followed by toothpaste. It works. No harm is caused to the finish.

Status of Proxy services right now?

That's a fair comment. I hadn't thought to do any price comparisons yet. I must admit, the FJ component of the overall cost of buying and shipping a guitar to me is very modest. It's DHL that really takes me to the cleaners. No EMS to my country. Ok, I will adjust my expectations. Asking...

Status of Proxy services right now?

FJ still creates drama for me when I buy a hard case for a gigged-bagged purchase to be placed into. They would rather ship a soft-bagged guitar to me after packing it into a cardboard carton alongside the guitar's dedicated hard case. Maybe their English/Japanese software's translation of...

Anyone ever tried Maxon U3000 and/or U4000 pickups?

Can anyone comment on what Double Trick 1982 (black stickered) are like as pickups? There's very little info or experiences shared here on this forum, or anywhere, for the Double Tricks. Web info says they are Alnico 5 and 18,000 Yen (2nd to Z Dry at 20,000 Yen back then). In which case, how...

    NGD - '90 Greco SA-75

I had the exact same problem recently with a Fender Jazz Bass neck that I sent to Australia for repair. It came back looking just like that. I was very depressed about it for about 2 weeks. After seeking advice, I used firstly 1500 wet&dry followed by 2000, which leaves the surface smooth...

    NGD: 1980 Greco EG 700

Nice! I have 2 like that too, from 1978, and for the same reason. What pickups are you thinking of trying? I want to fool around with any or all of U3000/Dimarzio PAF, '57 Classic, or SD SH4/SH2 sets. But the stock U2000s sound so nice that I haven't had the heart to take anything out yet!

Anyone ever tried Maxon U3000 and/or U4000 pickups?

Here's something you don't see every day - PU-0c pickups, successor to the U3000, as fitted to the allegedly prestigious double-cut MR800 Greco from 2nd half of 1977 onwards. The hammer fell on these at JPY 16,000. If one actually does have an MR800 bereft of its rightful pickups, then one...

Aria Pro ii LS800 with Gibson T Tops??

I'm double-minded. I'm a fairly quiet player, mostly. Only thing stopping me from changing them out is that all hardware looks to be still untouched and un-messed-with by amateur paws. The acoustic sound on this one is good, very resonant. I can happily sit in my sofa and play it unplugged...

Aria Pro ii LS800 with Gibson T Tops??

Ok, pix ... ... pancake mahogany body with solid maple top, 3-piece maple neck, "nibs" on fret-edge binding. Thicker neck than the '76-'79 Greco EG700s. Not that I am fussy about necks.

Aria Pro ii LS800 with Gibson T Tops??

Serial on this thing is 068001. Consistent with being either a 1980 if YMMXXX, or a 1978 if a MMYXXX? The latter makes more sense if it indicates June 1978, because there's no month of "68" in 1980! I'm reasonably familiar now with Greco serial numbering, but this is my first flirtation with...

Aria Pro ii LS800 with Gibson T Tops??

While on this topic, I've just recently acquired a 1980 LS600 which, according to catalogue, should have left Matsumoku fitted with DiMarzio pickups. I started to take one out, in order to read whatever's stamped on the back, but immediately snapped the very first screw in half. They've never...

The Other Single-Cuts Classifieds (read the rules before posting)

Any guitars that need to reach me here in Fiji Islands have to come through SGR then SYD. The From-Japan Shipping Instructions options for DHL and FedEx are active, but EMS is not available. One LP in soft case costs about JPY 30K on DHL, but a lot more for FedEx.

Anyone ever tried Maxon U3000 and/or U4000 pickups?

Based upon physical examination of a sample size of one (1) U4000, JK-sensei states (and I quote): "the arrangement between the bobbin and the base plate and the size of the magnet are the same as the U-1000". Magnet is alnico. But alnico number what? Pop in one of those in place of the...
