Every hotel room in America is apparently sold out...indefinitely

Well, there is the labor shortage. Though it is worse in some places than others, it is nation wide. Hotels and restaurants are short staffed. I don’t know the cause of this, but restaurants here have cut days and hours they are open, and one hotel here was closed for a while due to lack of staff.

To wrap over the tailpiece bar, or not...

I just use 9-42s on all my guitars, and chose string brands/models that have lower tension for their gauge, when tuned to concert pitch.

To wrap over the tailpiece bar, or not...

Guitar set up is a very individual thing. A good number of players find bends easier with a top wrap or an elevated TP.

To wrap over the tailpiece bar, or not...

Top wrapping or raising TP height both do the same thing, and that is to decrease string pressure on the saddles and bridge. This MAY make bends easier and MAY decrease tone quality — matters of opinion. But any change in playability and/or tone will be small. My preference (and it is just that)...

Time for a Green Xmas Season

Back to steam locomotives, trains, and Christmas — something that has always been a connection to me. There is a steam loco that pulls a train from Williams AZ to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. The loco burns used and filtered cooking oil from restaurants. It is cheap, as the restaurants...

Time for a Green Xmas Season

Nope, very early steam locomotives were wood fired. But burning wood doesn’t put out enough heat for good performance.

Time for a Green Xmas Season

The train probably could convert from coal to liquified natural gas (LNG) to fire the boiler. But I don’t think there is a source around here.

Time for a Green Xmas Season

M&M, the railroad is converting its old steam engines from coal to oil to keep them from spewing hot embers that start forest fires. And a side benefit is reduction in pollution.

Time for a Green Xmas Season

Here’s an interesting holiday event in Colorado, relevant to this post. This time of year the US Forest Service issues permits to cut Christmas trees in the National Forests for under $10 per tree. USFS designates the area and species of tree, under 20’ tall, that can be cut. The real purpose...

Time for a Green Xmas Season

I must agree with M&M to a point, because the holiday has become too overblown to actually enjoy. We like to keep it simple, and like it better that way. No big outdoor strings of lights. Here the late December snows mean I have to wait until April to take them down. The one indoor tree is...

    NGD: '21 Epi Firebird!

Very nice! Good that the neck fits your hand. This is the most important thing, and it really can’t be modded.

Who was the first Person that was your Inspiration Playing Guitar

Chuck Berry. To me, he invented lead rock guitar playing, as separate from be-bop, country, swing, blues, and so on.

Les Pauls Hide sins...in a good way !!!....Do you agree

My favorite LP would have to be the double cutaway one made in 1960, before the SG was introduced. The only negative on this is the lack of a maple cap. But the heavier body on it gave it a better tone than the less hefty SG.

Les Pauls Hide sins...in a good way !!!....Do you agree

Well actually the amp matters when you are NOT using distortion. I like an amp that I can set to give me distortion on the lower strings hard attack and give me clean tone clean on the higher strings with softer attack.

    First time Grandpa

Well, I have a grandson who is a huge guy who plays offensive lineman for the Allen, Texas foot ball team. His team is about to win state! But if not, he will play football for Harvard in 2022. I am so very proud of him! My grandson is a “rock star;” and I never was. I am so happy that he...

Thiele/Small Speaker cabs Real benefits or marketing gimmicks?

Don, as you may remember, I use two small 1X12 cabs. The few times I have played out, I separate these cabs as far as the venue will allow, and place them on stands angled up. I go for a thick, rich tone, and with the Wraith head you built for me and the Weber speakers you recommended, I’m...

You may not see it until he grows a bit, but you will enjoy your grand kids more than you did your kids. From personal experience. Congrats!

Thiele/Small Speaker cabs Real benefits or marketing gimmicks?

Mesa Boogie used to sell Thiele cabinets loaded with their speakers, and perhaps still do. So this is not something new. I have never played through such a thing, but I am told these cabs are good.
