    Saturday Night Poll. Backstory added

If everything has to match, white. If not, white knobs, black pickups, white rings, black guard.

How well do satin finishes age?

I have an EVH Wolfgang in "Stealth" matte black with shiny patches on the front where the previous owner either glossed the finish through normal play wear or handled the guitar after eating KFC. :hmm:

    Double Cut terminology

All I need is a TV yellow faded Special DC, then I'll be done. Oh, and a '62' style Silver Jet dc. A TV yellow faded Special DC and a Silver Jet 62, but that's it. Okay, the faded Special, a silver 62, my chair, this lamp...

    Double Cut terminology

That's the problem I run into. All four guitars pictured above are considered the same model -- Gibson Les Paul Special DC. Really can't stand the look of the 'B' type curvier cutaways, so I go on a very short emotional rollercoaster ride whenever Reverb or Ebay alerts me "Hey look, a TV...

    Double Cut terminology

Are there generally agreed upon -- and thus search engine friendly -- terms used to distinguish DCs with the flatter cutaways (A) from those with the more LP style curved cutaways (B)? Widehorns? Shallowcuts? Flatbottoms?

Are there ebony fretboards on japanese vintage guitars?

I own three of the Korean EGCs with ebonol boards and I would trade at least two of them for one of those violin bursts. I usually think a rosewood board on a Custom is an eyesore, but the few VBs I've seen were stunners.

Anyone ordered a double-P90 DC Jr from Precision?

I certainly wouldn't mind SG bodies being a bit heavier, especially if it would reduce neck dive. My straps are wide and grippy enough that I rarely ever get any dive, but still.. I can see in their eyes that the SGs are thinking about it. Sneaky bastards.

Anyone ordered a double-P90 DC Jr from Precision?

It's one of those 'Worn' models so maybe Gibson skimped on the wood too, not just the finish. :laugh2: But just now I put caliper to my SGs and the '04 (also a Worn model) is 1.35" thick between the jack and strap button and 1.36" at the upper horn, while the '14 (fully lacquered) is 1.33...

LP Jr / Special DC, same as I'm considering ordering from Precision.

Anyone ordered a double-P90 DC Jr from Precision?

I did, but just about their neck pickup routing, which was my main concern. (No response, btw.) The control cavity depth was just an afterthought. Yes, Ua gave me the measurement of his Precision. Thicker body and deeper cavity than my Gibson, so all good.

Anyone ordered a double-P90 DC Jr from Precision?

Push-pull pots. Traditional ones with vertically oriented dpdt switch assemblies were too tall to fit in my Gibson, so I got the newer style ones with the little circuit boards. Just wanted to make sure Precision's cavity isn't shallower than that.

Anyone ordered a double-P90 DC Jr from Precision?

Here's how it looks on my '07 DC. Shielding foil in the way so I can't tell if there's any additional tenon under the route, but :fingersx: Speaking of routing, what's the story behind that offset popsicle stick sort of pattern in the finish over the tenon? Marks from clamping? I...

Anyone ordered a double-P90 DC Jr from Precision?

Very helpful, thank you! Sounds like a Precision would have plenty of room to work in compared to the '07 worn Special I have now, which is a hair over 1.5" at the jack, a hair under 1.5 at the horns, and 1.12 - 1.17 in the cavity depending on where you look...

Anyone ordered a double-P90 DC Jr from Precision?

Oh, I'm not looking to route one myself, just need to know how much space Precision has in theirs. Hoping to use a push/pull pot, but in a real deal Gibson there's only room for the newer ones with the little circuit boards -- and only just barely. If Precision's bodies and/or cavity routes...

Anyone ordered a double-P90 DC Jr from Precision?

Good to know, thanks! I guess I have to decide how much of a deal breaker that neck pickup location really is. I'd probably forego it altogether and go bridge-only with a nice big pickguard covering the joint. Nice work on that Explorer !

Anyone ordered a double-P90 DC Jr from Precision?

Oh -- also curious about the depth of the control cavity route.

Anyone ordered a double-P90 DC Jr from Precision?

I've got it in my head that I 'need' a TV yellow DC, but Gibsons in that color don't turn up on the used market as often as I'd like and even when they do they tend to be priced almost double what I paid for the cherry red one I have now. I'm no stranger to shooting lacquer, so I'm thinking...

Roadworn Telecaster.... these things are awesome

Hard to go wrong with a nice Fender RW. :thumb: For my money, the sleepers of the series were the Road Worn Player (RWP) models, which had modern tuners and more subtle, uniform weathering than the RW 50s or 60s. The look and feel are less like finish has been removed, more like it was...
