PSA: Schaller S-Locks' felt washer might leave permanent maks in the lacquer

Simple matter of still just not getting enough torque with what I had available. There was no included wrench with my set, and let's not forget, Schaller themselves say you don't even need a wrench of any kind...

PSA: Schaller S-Locks' felt washer might leave permanent maks in the lacquer

There was definitely no included wrench with my set.

PSA: Schaller S-Locks' felt washer might leave permanent maks in the lacquer

The wheel isn't what moved. As the OP said, and as I said in my video the cup on the strap side is what moved. Since you can't put a real wrench on it, I was never able to get it completely locked down. Yes, I know about the hole milled through that they recommend threading an Allen wrench...

PSA: Schaller S-Locks' felt washer might leave permanent maks in the lacquer

I agree, it SHOULD have been enough. It wasn't.

PSA: Schaller S-Locks' felt washer might leave permanent maks in the lacquer

Please see my response literally directly above your responses.... The set screw is NOT the problem. Their new "locking wheel" is the problem.

PSA: Schaller S-Locks' felt washer might leave permanent maks in the lacquer

Well, due to this being mentioned a few times now, I realize that I should have talked about the set screw earlier in my video. I chalk that up to this video being my first on the channel, and I'll be more aware of it in future videos. To answer your question, yes, I did tighten the set screw...

PSA: Schaller S-Locks' felt washer might leave permanent maks in the lacquer

I also recommend anyone using, or even considering using the new Shaller S-Locks watch this video: Full disclosure, this is my video on my channel. I have been using the old style Schaller locks for over 15 years with no problem before this incident. I also worked in copier repair for over 10...

YouTube Video About My 79 Les Paul Standard

Thanks! I'm pretty much retired from the band world these days, due to some physical limitations, but I'm finding that the YouTube channel is satisfying my need for creativity.

NGD 2019 LP Trad Pro V

Sweet axe! I bought a 2020 Trad Pro V and the VERY end of last year and love it. I also replaced the truss rod cover with a blank one because "Trad Pro V" is a visual train wreck. I LOVE my guitar. I want to add a Classic and/or Custom to the collection soon, but if I came across a good deal on...

    NGD: Schecter Demon 7

Well, I've always wanted a 7 string ever since I saw the first ad for Steve Vai's Ibanez Universe, but I could never justify spending the money. Came across this in a pawn shop for DIRT cheap, so I finally talked myself into it. Needs a bit of TLC. Fretboard is dry as the Sahara, bridge sag was...

YouTube Video About My 79 Les Paul Standard

Yep, that guitar and my 900 have always been my go to setup for tone. For the type of music I play, it really just works.

YouTube Video About My 79 Les Paul Standard

Mine was made in Nashville. I'm not sure if being made in Nashville added to the mojo, but I choose to believe that having Randy Leonard's initials in the truss rod cavity help. :) Nope, this one is going to my son after I'm gone.

YouTube Video About My 79 Les Paul Standard

My 79 Les Paul is my all-time favorite guitar, by far... So I made a YouTube video to show it off. :)

    Schaller S Locks.....

Well, I guess the best way to explain it is that I didn't KNOW it wasn't tight enough until after my guitar hit the floor. I didn't know that the whole lock was slowly rotating as I was playing with the guys. It SEEMED tight enough at the time. It was only after I picked it up off the floor and...

    Schaller S Locks.....

I guess the short version is just intense irritation that after SO many years of using the older Schaller style (even if they were made by Fender) with no issues at all compared to the new style locks failing 15 minutes into their first use. With the new design, even with the hole milled through...

    Schaller S Locks.....

I'll admit, even after I saw that the headstock wasn't broken, I was sick to my stomach for HOURS.
