Gabby Petito -- missing 22 year old

I am aware that the situations are not the same at all. I am referring to something general, as was the line in the decision. Are you one of those lawyers the joke was referring to?

Pennsylvania man faces 7 years for allegedly underpaying for Mountain Dew by 43 cents

They called the cops over 43¢? There may be more to the story, but from what I have heard and read, this was a misunderstanding, not a crime, but rather a picayune civil matter -- maybe breach of contract. Bail was originally set at $50,000, but his PD was able to get him out without having to...

    UPS Store - corporate B.S.

I had a similar experience with a new property management company which took over in the middle of my lease. They started giving me shit about having them directly draw rent from my checking account. I told them that the lease doesn't require me do do that, and I wasn't. They dropped it. A...

    NPTD (new police truck day)

I would think that would be reason enough to remove the tinting, but that would probably require too much $$$.

I know this is super serious and very important, but... No link? I don't even know the URL for the website.

Lawyers always tell people to keep their mouths shut, especially to police. "[A]ny lawyer worth his salt will tell the suspect in no uncertain terms to make no statement to police under any circumstances." WATTS v. INDIANA 338 U.S. 49, 59 (1949).

I may have misunderstood you, but... No sane, competent attorney would tell a client to go on the lam. Not only would the attorney be committing a crime, that is horrible advice because flight to avoid justice is manna for prosecutors.

That's a good question. I read that parents can't be prosecuted for harboring their child under Florida law, but I don't know about federal law. I don't know about Florida (or federal) w.r.t. parents I think there has been a trend over the past decade to arrest women who have smacked their...

I have watched far too many prison/jail documentaries, and girlfriend killers seem to be out-despised only by rapists and child molesters.

Gabby Petito -- missing 22 year old

That's a good question. I read that parents can't be prosecuted for harboring their child under Florida law, but I'm not sure know about federal law -- I think not. I also don't know about Florida (or federal) w.r.t. aiding escape/flight from justice. Would Roberteaux care to answer this one?

Would the feds have jurisdiction if an Alabama citizen murders another Alabama citizen by konking him on the head with a branch which fell from an Alabama tree? A century ago, they wouldn't, but I can't remember about today. I am assuming no civil-rights issues, of course. Let's say it was...

I'm not in favor of vigilantism, and I wouldn't want the girl's father to face charges, but I wouldn't cry for the "Laundry Kid" if vigilantes strung his ass up.

Good point that it can be tricky when multiple states are involved. For a state to have jurisdiction over the crime, part of the crime has to be committed in that state. A good example is an Alabama case from the 1990s. A couple kidnapped a 13y/o girl from a mall in Rome, GA, and later killed...

How to quit your job... mic drop.

I know being an associate at Wally World for five years isn't what we think of as being part of a career, but maybe (and I doubt it!) she is working her way through school in a degree program with good career prospects. Maybe computer science? So many people don't realize that even in-school...
