I still don't have much extra time on my hands, but I do feel like I need to do some things to fill the voids from things I really miss...LIKE FREAKIN' GIGS!!!... ahem...anyway...I've been wanting to electrify this one for awhile and finally got to it.
It being my first attempt, the "D'oh!"...
Hey, y'all...I'm back from banishment with something fun.
This one came up for sale locally and, for some reason, I just couldn't stop thinking about it...I normally wouldn't have given it much consideration, but...I don't know...it SPOKE to me.
The seller brought it to my place so I could check...
Damn...this thing is COOL!
Flawless workmanship, beautiful fret work...they're tall...railroad tracks...like a Firebird.
If I knew nothing about this guitar and someone told me it was a boutique-y $2500 guitar, I would believe it.
Medium neck...not thin, not chunky.
I guess the measurements are...
Barely played...no bucklerash, no worming, virtually no fret wear.
Who the f#$% owns these things for so long without playing them?
Despite all the Norlin stuff, I would put this one with any Gibson I've played.
Just an exemplary guitar.
This one has the center block that has a space...
Gibson's answer to the Gretschbucker in terms of how poorly regarded they are.
I think their description says something to the effect of how they remain articulate when using a lot of gain, and that's just what they do. They probably say "tight and focused" as those terms are popular now.
Of all the goofy pickup questions, I don't think I've ever noticed this being asked.
I REALLY dig Firebirds, but I just can't dig the pickups.
Original ones are good (but not great...to me, anyway), and the modern ones have some good sounds, but some terrible ones, too.
Is there a PAF-style...
I like doing trades.
Guitars you wouldn't necessarily pursue, come to you.
This one is unplayed.
A little on the Liberace side, but I kind of dig it.
Biggest case on earth.
Smells like a cupcake.
Lowly and cheap.
Halfway through last night's gig, I put down the '74 Tele Custom (amazing WRHB neck pickup) and picked up my chosen backup: proletarian Epiphone Korina 58 V with the workin' man-priced pickups.
From the first couple of noodley notes just to make sure everything was plugged in, I...
One has a very low reading...3.something ohms.
Clearly there are questions and issues.
I just don't know enough to take a chance on them...yet.
What do you think?
You can see from the pic why I just don't need this one anymore.
Amp is dead mint.
Only gigged a handful of times and transported carefully with 6-sided Tuki cover (included).
All the goodness of a 5F6A Bassman plus a Drive channel and Reverb...
The adjuster thingy on my schnazzy 3-guitar stand turned to snot and could well have dropped 3 guitars at once. Dodged a bullet!
Contacted Hercules and got the typical gracious, 'No problem, Charlie-o...just send us pics, the serial # and THE SALES RECEIPT THAT YOU,OF COURSE, HAVE CAREFULLY...
I've been meaning to do this for....2 years, maybe?
I still feel like I need more time than the 20 minutes I had to devote to it.
'58 Bassman vs. Kendrick BadAssMan
How can one even compare?
Even 2 '58 Bassmans could be very different.
The K has modern glass, the F has old US glass with old...
After 35 years of gigging, I've had TWO lately.
1st...always-on delay with repeats turned off (which gives 1 repeat on my pedal) and just a tiny bit of time between so it doesn't sound like 2 notes, but 1 big, fat note.
I'm sure this isn't news to many of you, but I've always been a...
