How important are looks to you?

How important are looks to you when picking up your guitar, or judging someone else's guitar choice? If someone showed up to a rootsy blues jam with a pointy Ibanez 7-string, but could wail like one of the Kings (Al, BB, whoever), would shrug it off, or wonder why they were playing that sort of...

    Solo boost pedal allocation

I use my amp for my drive sound I have the TCE spark mini in the effects loop for a small, clean volume boost. I've also found that it seems to brighten things up a little bit, which helps to cut through in a band setting I have an analog man tuber screamer to front end the amp / fatten up the...

The string butler is great! I've bought a TP6 tail piece, too, and I'm looking to install a Kahler behind-the-nut locking system. The Kahler, as well as the headstock attachment tool for the necessary hex wrenches, are both in the mail. I'm pumped!!!

Reply to review by 'zizyphus' on item 'Gibson 2003 Les Paul Classic 3-Pickups'

Awesome! I also have a 3-pickup LP that makes me happy every time I play it. Honestly, though... I don't find many uses for the middle position. Its like a slightly brighter neck position, but if I'm not using the bridge, I usually want them full throaty neck tones anyway. Any thoughts on this...

Use for Middle Position in HHH LP

Hey! I just wanted to share a recent success I've had tinkering with one of my axes TL;DR: put in a humbucker sized p90, did a magnet swap, and added a high pass capacitor to create a p90 'bridge' pickup tone This guy is a second hand Chibson that I, understandably, got for dirt cheap from a...

    The pickup magnet rabbit hole...

In your experience, how much do different brands of the same grade of magnet differ tonally? I have an JB with an A2 in the bridge of my Les Paul. I loved it before the magnet swap, then loved it even more after swapping in an aftermarket A2 that I bought from Philadelphia Luthiers. The A2...

    Awesome '57 Classic Magnet Swaps

Interesting. I'd say I've seen the most complaints about the 490s, then there's a fair share of Burstbuckers detractors who say they're bright / brittle, and while it definitely has its critics, my impression was that the '57s were the best received. I definitely agree that they have too much...

Cleaning up the mud on a 490R

voila! Its a JS32 V. The stock hardware was all black, which I replaced. The tuners are Hipshot, and the bridge is Gotoh. The bridge in particular was a pleasant surprise. It was ~$25, and its zinc – nothing fancy or anything – but its clearly very solid, and I was very happy about it for the...

    Awesome '57 Classic Magnet Swaps

Hey! I haven't seen too many threads of magnet swaps for the '57 classic. It seems to be one of Gibson's more popular pups, so maybe that's why you don't see it being modded so often, but I'm still curious whether anyone else has done it. I swapped the magnets on mine for an A4 in the neck...

Cleaning up the mud on a 490R

Hey! I thought I'd share a quick, 5 cent mod that turned my muddy sounding 490R into a pickup whose tones I absolutely love. This is definitely not a new trick, and I'm not smart enough (or old enough) to be the first to do it, but it was very successful for me, so I thought I'd share. TLDR...

Adding Humbucker Covers Without Rolling off Treble?

Thanks for the responses! I should have clarified that I wanted the classic covered humbucker look – nickel with screw pole pieces exposed for the outer coils. I'm already using 1 meg volume and tone pots, so no dice on changing those out. In the end, my solution was to just open my tone pots...

Adding Humbucker Covers Without Rolling off Treble?

Hey! Does any know of a type of humbucker covers that I could put on a pair of Zebra bobbins that won't roll the treble off? I know its only a subtle effect, but I do notice it. Also, I'm already using 1 Meg pots, and boosting the treble on my amp doesn't quite sound the same as having it...

    1 meg PUSH/PUSH pots?

Yep, thanks! That's actually what I'm looking to replace. I have those in a few guitars. I'm looking for a 1meg PUSH/PUSH pot, not push/pull. It just makes it much easier to switch on the fly

    1 meg PUSH/PUSH pots?

Hey all! Long time lurker, first time poster (be gentle....) I'm a big fan of 1meg pots, especially in my LPs. I think the combo of mid/bass heavy pickups with a 1meg pot seems to give a huge frequency spectrum – max highs, max lows. But anyway... I'm interested in finding 1meg push/push...
