Hi Peter, I am interested in one of your vintage LP peghead templates if they're still available. Also, I was at Tom Bartlett's today and was inquiring if anyone makes a rule of 18 LP fretting template for use in a miter box like LMI. He thought that you might have something. Let me know...

    1958 325 Capri build

Thanks, a nice side profile photo would be great. The measurements I am interested in is the thickness at the tip of the headstock and also at the widest point where the peghead flares out from the nut. I'm intersted in if the peghead thickness is tapered or one uniform thickness.

    1958 325 Capri build

Really cool thread! Could you post some side profile shots of the peghead angle and dimensions of the thickness near the nut and and at the tip? Thanks!

    ES 335 builders?

Of all the builders Mike Stevens builds the closest ES-335 you can get. They're not cheap, but they're one of if not the best. Here's the link http://www.stevensguitars.com/news/2009/08/05/

Where to buy Quater inch flame maple

I agree 1000%. I have never got a bad piece of maple from Paul. A lot of it is red maple with mineral streaks like you see in a lot of 'bursts although he does sell some "hard maple".

Gibson Raided : Officials Seize Wood Materials At Gibson Guitars

Yes, my opening and closing statements were in humor or a facsimile thereof. However, my actual point is that unless the movement to protect the lemur's habitat is initiated and controlled by the Madagascan government themselves, then the lemurs are headed for possible extinction. The action...

Gibson Raided : Officials Seize Wood Materials At Gibson Guitars

What has a ringtail lemur done for you lately? It doesn't sound like it's the Madagascans themselves that give a crap about the lemurs. It's the activists. Hell, they're probably eating the little fuzzy things!:wow:

Gibson Raided : Officials Seize Wood Materials At Gibson Guitars

Wow! That's it, I'm going into my backyard right now and burying all of my Madagascar RW, Brazilian RW & Honduras Mahogany. I've changed my mind, I'm going to burn it all and roast marshmallows!:wow:

    Question about effectiveness of robosander

The problem with an oscillating spindle sander is that it won't follow a pattern. They are strictly for freehanding a profile. I have a really nice Grizzly one and wouldn't be without it. For a real nice benchtop one that doesn't cost much money get the Rigid oscillating drum/belt sander that...

    Question about effectiveness of robosander

Robosanders can be safely operated even by one of the zombies in the classic movie "Night of the Living Dead" and achieve acceptable results once you've bansawn the wood close to your outline.:laugh2: Routers are great if you know what you're doing and you have to be VERY careful to pay...

Wire Channel in Neck Pickup Route

I looked through all of my other 'burst photos to compare, but most of the neck pickup cavities were shot at an angle where you don't see the channel. The 4 I did find showed variations also but were most similar to the first picture. I can't tell you how the route looked at the switch hole...

Wire Channel in Neck Pickup Route

I agree that the exposed tenon length is different, but that would have been a difference in the neck manufacture. Other than that the routes look almost identical including the length of the tenon route in the body. So, if the necks both join at the 16th fret, the fingerboards are the same...

Wire Channel in Neck Pickup Route

OK, if the factory used templates for routing, why would there be such a large difference in the intersection of the wiring channel with the neck pickup route in these 2 photos? (Upper is 8_6342 and lower is 9_5246):

    Fingerboard Gluing Plane

That would be great! I look forward to seeing the photos. Likewise, I use sandpaper and scrapers to transition the binding into the neck. When you are using the inflatable drum sander, what grit paper do you typically use and how much air do you put into the bladder? I should try this...

    vintage 59 binding

I corrected my original post because it said that this '59 was in "Joe Ganzler's" stable. Actually, it's in "Charles Daughtry's" stable. Both guys have AMAZING original 'bursts, and if you want to drool for hours and see some hi-res photos of some of the most beautiful guitars you need to visit...
