so we tried the 60s classic today and he loved it! i think thats the go! besides some rewind jppost72 pickups is there anything else worth upgrading on the guitar to get it closer to R0 spec or worth while upgrades
urhh i went down that rabbit hole tonight, wiring is about splitting the humbuckers? but some say he did that mod after the zeppelin days? and pick ups confused me even more, PAFs/T tops, i found a seymour duncan set called whole lotta humbucker...
the problem with that is he would never admit to one he likes due to the price and then he would know what its worth and whilst appreciating the gift knowing the cost will take away part of the joy. this way if i just buy it i can say its present and i got an amazing deal and that can be the end...
i have a greco lp and he likes the feel of it, i was just curious if it gibsons were like the fender starts where you can buy a USA fender upgrade the tuners and pick ups and you have a great instrument for less than the cost of a custom shop reissue.
but if the R0's are that much better it...
something like this?? whats the difference between classic and standard? something tells me that isnt a R0 judging by the price?

I want to buy my dad his first Gibson Les paul for his 70th birthday. He is a fan of Led Zeppelin so naturally the 1959 reissue comes to mind but gee is the price eyewatering!
would i by better off buying a les paul standard and spending money on upgrades or what is the best bang for...
