Just ordered a Universal Audio OX - is it overkill?

https://en-de.neumann.com/ndh-20i must say these are spectacular. It just sounds like the amp, no colouring, just super clear and clean. Playing lossless audio through them plugged into the UAD Apollo interface sounds pretty much like being at a live gig :)

Just ordered a Universal Audio OX - is it overkill?

Headphone out on ox is pretty comparable to going through UAD Apollo interface into DAW. Both sound superb to my ears

    *** 1950's ABR1 Saddles ***

All the old ones I've seen have been fatter on top than most new ones, which tend to have a very sharp ridge. Gibson ones are actually a bit fatter and fitted my pigtail. Believe it or not they sound better. You can also file them down a bit top to bottom to make them a bit fatter on top. That...

54 LP & Vintage P90s - The Hidden Strat Tone

Some of us love the sound of a Strat, but hate the look or, in my case, can't play them for sh*t!! Vintage style p90s are a great compromise I think. The secret seems to be knocking both the volume and, strangely the tone, back a bit. Seems to bring out a real Strat quality, to my ears at...

Best overdrive to go into slightly overdriven tweed

I have found Jan ray and 24v Hudson broadcast excellent with tweeds

The most boring bit of gear?

Power supplies and cables. Boring but important. I had a big reduction in noise and improvement in overall clarity moving to gig rig setup

1954 Goldtop - Up Close Video

Cheers Liam! It's the convenience thing for still being able to play guitar when I'm not at home really. It does sound good, but I still prefer my amps. But it has come a LONG way, no doubt. I recently invested in an UAD Ox Box which is an excellent compromise...real cranked amps into a cab...

1954 Goldtop - Up Close Video

Recently started experimenting with some recording gear and thought some of you vintage nuts may be interested in hearing and seeing this old girl up close.

    Considering a 1954 Goldtop

Exactly what I did. Thin ear in the case. Mojoaxe on with full legnth studs

    Considering a 1954 Goldtop

On the fret front, just me, but I wouldn't consider it a deal breaker. It's like tires on a car...you use it, they wear. Just be careful about who you have refret it if and when you need to do it. The height of the frets seems to be more of an influence on playability than the width in my...

    Considering a 1954 Goldtop

Leaning studs I would say. Pretty common but not a deal-breaker issue, just something that needs correcting by a good luthier, putting in full legnth studs and bushings. Made my guitar sound even better believe it or not also

Any thoughts about the Origin 20 combo

    Correct!

Any thoughts about the Origin 20 combo

I played one at a jam once and was very impressed. Thought it sounded excellent and I normally play through a few fairly nice vintage fenders so they set quite a high benchmark. Again, I though it sounded excellent for the price. I would be tempted to opt for that over the vox...I agree that, in...

    Anyone run a Variac?

Exactly! And I'm getting 246v out my wall believe it or not! For UK I take it down to about 220v. For US voltage amps I use it after a step down transformer, which may give me 125v out or something and then then I take it down to 110v or so with the eurobox.

    Anyone run a Variac?

I use an AmpRX EuroVolt with any of my vintage amps. Works wonders and highly recommend it. Amps run cooler and just sound 'right'. I bias with them at the reduce voltage.
