This is back up for sale. Trade fell through and I took the last few weeks to install a RS wiring harness. Has Superpots in the volume spots and 500k CTS pots in the tone spots. RS .022uF paper in oil capacitors. I find the RS Superpots clean up much like VIPots. Quick clean up from 10 down to...

Your favorite Throbak PAF and why?

I’ve had the Pre-T set and still have a set of PG-102s. The PGs are probably my favorite set of all time. Thinking of getting a set for a semi-hollow without the magnet flip. Bridge has snarl, but cleans up great. Neck has a nice hollow, flutey tone. Middle setting is as expected. I’ve had a...

Share your wisdom please (high end Tokai vs a '20 60s STD LP)

Buying sight unseen, I would be far more at ease buying a Tokai, despite recent reports of Gibson having upped their game and quality control. And has already been mentioned, you get much better specs for your dollar with Tokai.

Yes. Solder pickup leads to the pots/wiring harness while outside the body. Then the assembly needs to be dropped into the guitar via one of the f-holes. Jack first, then one pot at a time, being careful not to twist too much. I don’t currently have a suitable place to do the work, otherwise...

Trade pending ‘82-84 ESP built Navigator SA120. Nitro finish, original pickups, Tonepros AVR-II, stock tailpiece and SKB hardcase. I believe it has been regretted. Given the wear on the guitar, the frets have little wear. Plays amazingly well. Sings up and down the neck. Needs a new wiring...

Late 70's-early 80's Tokai LS50 vs 100 vs ? - Big difference in build quality?

Neck angle is different on the LS50/60 I believe. I think the higher end early 80s models came with DiMarzio rather than Gotoh. My LS120 had DiMarzio PAFs. Whether that’s an upgrade depends on your personal taste.

Rewind PAF-1 vs Throbak SLE-101 Plus

I would try a magnet swap before swapping pickups. Throbak UOA5 are fantastic. If you’re used to Wizz, I would also try A4.

    What is the PAF sound?

I have 3 sets of Throbak A5 magnets. 2 UOA5 Indiana and a set of Illinois. Have also tried his oriented A5. The UOA5s are definitely mid present. Smoother high end and softer low end attack than the common descriptions of scooped mids, boomy low end and harsh high end. The oriented A5s fit this...

    Edwards E-LP-92SD - Collapsed Bridge

I believe Tonepros only offers a Nashville style bridge for metric posts. The Hosco is fantastic. I switched out my Faber bridges for the Hosco. The Gotoh bridges only come with zinc saddles. Hosco, which I believe is the parent company of Gotoh, offers brass saddles. Kind of strange.
