Question for Freddy and anyone else interested...

Yes, the Hector recording is my fav of the bunch. He's a great talent who's paid his due and it shows. He was totally down with the concept after spotting the old mics. I wish we would have recorded more material, we only got 6 tunes. I hope to be able to do something with drums in this config.

Question for Freddy and anyone else interested...

While the guitars are plugged in I didn't use any of the pickup signal. The only thing added it a feed from Hector's foot stomper.

1958 Les Paul Special at Goodwill

I bought a '61 Silverstone U-1 at Salvation Army once for $39.95, the exact price it sold for at Sears in 1961. Am I going to hell?

Question for Freddy and anyone else interested...

I did go with the Bluemlein on the solo Blues artist. It worked great after I convinced him to play his guitar with the lower bout between his legs like a classical. I could have accommodated the other position as well ( guitar resting on his right leg) by moving the mic off to the left side but...

Question for Freddy and anyone else interested...

Sure, me too. I'm just worried that with one soloist the center may not be as solid with the Bluemlein approach, vs using one figure 8 as Mid and the other as side ( in effect just rotating the pair 45 degrees and decoding accordingly). With Bluemlein you have 2 mics off axis respectively to the...

Question for Freddy and anyone else interested...

Going to videotape a Blues Soloist ( singer / acoustic guitar) , planning on using a single stereo set up, using 2 RCA 77DX ribbons in figure 8. Bluemlein or MS?

What software will compile cell phone videos from band members into a video?

Sorry to sidetrack for a moment but... .....man, I wish they wouldn't have butchered that song. Here's the real deal version, a great song on an incredibly important album in Bruce's career IMHO. Now back to our regular scheduled program.

Seeking advice on mixing and production

yeah, the logic de-essers tend to be junk, at least mine in Logic 8 is, totally unusable. I don't know the Logic X de-esser . What you want is a de-esser with the ability to isolate a specific frequency range and only apply gain reduction on a selectable small band of frequencies as key. A high...

Seeking advice on mixing and production

me too, the only 2 comments I have is that maybe a little better job on the de-essing could be done. What plug in do you use? Not all de-essers are created equal. I like the Fabfilter the best, or Isotope dynamic EQ. The other comment is that every singer has a different breath volume in...

Almost time for a new recording computer Mac or PC?

I can relate to that, I personally NEVER re-amp anything that I play, because the same rules apply. The amp is part of the electric guitar as a whole instrument. Get a sound you want going in and stick with it. Your playing will depend and reflect the sound and feel of your rig at the time of...

Almost time for a new recording computer Mac or PC?

Interesting perspective and there's a lot of truth and wisdom here. My take on this is that you can still follow that instinct but not with every plug-in. Nothing against this particular company but I used Waves for years and years and always was amazed how much time I spent re-tweaking...

    Let’s talk mic pre amps

What's there to say? 8 channels of clean, digitally controlled micpres with 1 dB stops ( each divided into 1/4dB steps = smooth gaining up and down) with jensen transformer input, loaded and un-loaded transformer secondary ( I like the unloaded option for vintage ribbons) individual phantom...

    Let’s talk mic pre amps

Oh, he's looking for a single channel pre? i thought he wanted 8 channels. That Daking looks great. The press on Focusrite interfaces are usually not great so maybe 8 channels would be the way to go after all.

    Let’s talk mic pre amps

I disagree if you're willing to go used. If I had a $500 budget for micpres I'd get a used Aphex 1788A with the digital option. They are out there, usually in the $600 range. These are a very good design with jensen transformers, built in limiters that limit the signal BEFORE preampfification...

    I Unhate JB

I love his business acumen, he's a master at maximizing his finite potential and getting a large piece of a rapidly shrinking pie. Good for him I say. Couldn't care less about what he does with his money or the gear he buys with it, it never should be about that anyway, and ironically it never...
