    2008 R9 checking

Thanks, it’s a keeper. it just spends its days in a case in my dining room, there is a bit of change in temperature through the seasons but nothing extreme, the house is pretty steady. We have had a pretty hot summer this year so maybe that’s why, it’s cooled off pretty quickly so maybe I’ve...

    2008 R9 checking

Yeah they may get worse but if they do so be it, it’s my go to guitar so I’d expect some fair wear and tear. When I got it it had spent its life under a bed for fear of damage, that was around 3 1/2 years ago. It certainly doesn’t live under a bed anymore, only difference is it lives in an...

    2008 R9 checking

I’ve managed to get a few, it’s been harder than I thought, really had to get the light to shine over them because they are so fine, hope they give you an idea though. I’m not concerned by them, just surprised because I didn’t think the laquer did it much any more. The guitar is 12 years old but...

    2008 R9 checking

I shall see what I can do, like I said though they are very fine which surprised me, I suppose I’m used to seeing the heavy scars of very old guitars and thoughts that is what they would all do.

    2008 R9 checking

Good morning fine folk, quick question. I’ve not really had much exposure to vintage guitars with checking or modern guitars with relic finishes or otherwise. Over the years I have read forum threads about reissues laquer having a formula that doesn’t allow checking like the older formula did...

    2017 Tokai ULS130F

Thanks, it is the open book style but it came originally from a shop in the UK called Richards Guitars, I found a post saying it was one of three “as good as it gets” hand selected models. His original listing had it pegged as the ULS130F. I’ll always care what they are as I like to know these...

    2017 Tokai ULS130F

Thanks, it’s a great guitar! The smell I mean is that Gibson nitro smell, I didn’t believe in it but it’s definitely there, I even had my wife smelling the Tokai and the R9 to ensure I wasn’t going mad

    2017 Tokai ULS130F

Well, I traded the R8 with cash my way and there’s nothing to say other than it was a great journey to collect the guitar and meet the previous owner, a true gent, and as for the guitar it’s simply awesome, I’m astounded at how good this thing is, I’m not feeling Gibson custom shop loss or...

Does anyone have the specs or catalogue info for these guitars? I can’t find anything and I’m not sure on the prices etc?

    2017 Tokai ULS130F

I think, although the tokai looks great, I shall be steering clear of this one. All the info (very little in fact) I can find on these say they should have a long neck tenon, this one does not. The short tenon image above is the Tokai. Something doesn’t sit right so I’ll go with that. If anyone...

    2017 Tokai ULS130F

No worries, more the merrier! no idea why, the top image above is my R9 from 2008. I have a 2017 R8 or custom shop LP standard, and that’s a shorter tenon but still long?!

    2017 Tokai ULS130F

Wouldn’t it? My understanding was that the end of the neck in the cavity just stops flat with the edge of the cavity, the protrusion (long tenon) doesn’t continue into the routed portion? long tenon short tenon
