    1st(technically 2nd) scratch Les Paul-build

A quick update: I made a new neck pocket template yesterday and re-routed the neck cavity. I made neck pocket wider by couple mm:s, getting rid of all the bumps i made previously. There's some burn marks on the bottom but the bottom is perfectly square and flat( unless my metal woodworking...

Yes.I did route the wiring channel. It's barely visible because the base of the neck pickup cavity looks like i had used a blowtorch to remove all the material. Still, it's definitely there.

    1st(technically 2nd) scratch Les Paul-build

Update: Here we go. Here's my progress thus far. Routed the neck angle, routed pickup cavities and the neck pocket. However i didn't finish the job because 1. I ran out of time. 2. I accidentally hit the template after i stopped routing and it caused a lot of damage. I don't even know how...

Looking for 1958 Rickenbacker 325 plans

I have made guitar plans by looking up pictures from web and drawn their outlines. Not perfect but works.

    1st(technically 2nd) scratch Les Paul-build

Update: Quick question. I have carved the top by now but i made a couple mistakes. - while routing the bottom step for the carve, my router tore out a 2 cm wide piece of wood from one spot on one corner. It's not too bad and it might go away when i route the binding rebates but i wouldn't be so...

Update: I have planed cut and routed the mahogany. Planed and cut the maple. I have routed the pickup switch cavity glued maple and mahogany together and sanded them flush. I have rounded over the edges and routed the backplate rebates. I got an idea to carve the top using a pillar drill(...

    1st(technically 2nd) scratch Les Paul-build

Update Here's some pictures i took. My camera is pretty crappy so the images may be a bit blurry. Maple. I enhanced the image to reveal the grain. I purchased C-grade flame maple so it isn't aesthetically mind blowing(but damn it was cheap, i paid only 50 euros for this. And the rest...

    1st(technically 2nd) scratch Les Paul-build

Well, time to try again. My previous project was an epitome of failure and thus i have no will or interest to proceed with it. I'll start again and pray to all deities in existence that i can finally make it through without any big mistakes. I can't afford overpriced firewood, especially as i...

...and that day i made a strat body from scratch

I have read your replies, and i agree, i should have removed more material before routing. However, i won't use (my) forstner bits because they're dull and simply won't remove the material. I used regular drill bits, which worked just fine. I did remove most material from the edges so there...

...and that day i made a strat body from scratch

My LP-disaster will be on hold for some time, until i have purchased a new neck blank. However i am tempted to throw the entire project to a fucking bonfire and start everything from scratch. But that's not what i am here to talk about this time. While i am waiting, i have started a quick...

    Refinishing an old bass

I decided to refinish my old Yamaha-bass guitar. It's original finish was in a really bad condition and i wanted to give it a new look. I planned to remove the paint and add some stain and finishing oil. I did not know what to expect but was pleasantly surprised. The wood below looks...

Should i use this fretboard blank?

I have had a slotted rosewood fingerboard blank at my place for 1,5 years now, and i live in place where climate is quite harsh at this time of the year. As a result, the blank has warped a bit. Should i still use it, or is proper intonation forever out of reach?

Found wood, Now I need to know which wood

I guess is it's species known as tomuchius dirtius AKA common soilwood. You can expose it's gorgeous grain-pattern by sanding/planing away the surface, which is infamously messy job to do.

    Les Paul Florentine chambering

I would use lighter wood so i don't need to chamber thr body blank.
