CITES Restrictions on Guitars to be Over Soon!

Does this mean that manufacturers will cease using the micarta and richlite fretboards on new guitars? Or is this exemption only for the transportation of already-built guitars?

[NGD & QUESTION] 2004 Standard with lopsided tailpiece

Top wrap, eh? I didn't consider that as an option. I don't mind the lopsided TP as long as it's not doing any damage :D but I'll have to watch a bunch of videos on the pros/cons of top wrapping. As for sending my previous 2018 Standard back due to neck twist -- maybe I was being too picky and...

I see! Very interesting. Thanks for the info.

[NGD & QUESTION] 2004 Standard with lopsided tailpiece

Wow, what a coincidence! I was watching the Gibson USA Factory Tour on youtube tonight and, during the final assembly and cleaning segment, I noticed that one of the LPs on the table had a very similar tailpiece slant... (Screenshot attached) Does this mean it's "normal"?

[NGD & QUESTION] 2004 Standard with lopsided tailpiece

Hi all, I wanted to share my latest attempt to find my first LP. Pics attached. it's been great so far and I plan to put the pick guard on permanently as long as the tailpiece isn't a huge issue. The bridge is _very_ lopsided by my naive eye -- but I'm not sure if it's a big deal, a little...

Anyone willing to let me try their early 90s Standard near Lincoln Park, NJ?

I'm not sure if this is allowed in this forum but I was wondering if anyone near Lincoln Park, NJ who owns an early 90s LP Standard is willing to let me try it out for a bit? I'm thinking of buying online but I'd really love to see how one from that era feels first -- and none of the B&M stores...

[Question/Discussion] What will the new 2019 LP Line do to the used market value of 2018 Standards?

I'd like to! My issue here is that I do not want to be LP-less for any period of time... so before I unload the 2018 Standard, I'd like to find a Wine Red Custom or Standard from the era I'm looking for. However, I've never even _played_ one of them so I'd rather not order online without...

[Question/Discussion] What will the new 2019 LP Line do to the used market value of 2018 Standards?

I believe 2018 standards are already closed out. In my search, at least, I found that guitar center had 0 NIB and only 24 'wall hangers' throughout all their Continental U.S. stores.

@MSB thanks for the input. And how poetically phrased, too!

[Question/Discussion] What will the new 2019 LP Line do to the used market value of 2018 Standards?

Thanks! Please read the rest of the thread. (1) I'm not concerned with losing money. However, if the value is predicted to decrease significantly, I'd need to revise my plans. (2) I didn't realize that the 2018 Standards 'are' the new Moderns (thanks @anorton) which changes my value...

[Question/Discussion] What will the new 2019 LP Line do to the used market value of 2018 Standards?

Thanks for the quick replies, all. I had _just about_ convinced the wife to let me dip into the New Car Down Payment bucket in the budget ( current lease is up in October) but it seems like the general consensus is that the value of 2018's line may depreciate a bit more than normal but not much...

[Question/Discussion] What will the new 2019 LP Line do to the used market value of 2018 Standards?

Hi all, Some may remember me from my recent posts about buying my first LP and all the problems I had with GC. If you do, you know that I eventually found a 2018 Standard that I liked and I purchased it (I've been loving it!). You also know, then, that my 'aspirational' LP is a 90s or early...

Screwless Pick Guard for 2018 Standard?

Hi All, I did some searching and there were a bunch of posts about Bobby's screwless pick guard quite a few years ago but it seems they are no longer on the market. There was one post in 2017 from someone also looking to buy a screwless pick guard but it went unresolved. I planned to simply...

Does GC ship display inventory when ordering New online?

Touche, I wrote that other post while in the Uber to the airport in a tired state lol. It was somewhere between a few minutes and an hour:D. Yep but as the other thread explains, that's sometimes difficult. I still don't know what a early 90s or early 00s custom feels like

Does GC ship display inventory when ordering New online?

Hey all, sorry to raise this old thread but I wanted to give an update. As mentioned, after I returned the LP from GC, I placed an order on Reverb from a reputable (> 1500 positive reviews) seller. Unfortunately, I had to travel and it was delivered at 6pm the night before I had to jump on a...

What to do when you can't find guitars to try before buying online?

Well guys, the one from reverb Finally... Arrived, after tons and tons of shipping troubles... She didn't make it easy for me to get her. But in the few hours I got to meet her yesterday evening, it seems worth the wait! I'm super excited to really get to know her, unfortunately I'm currently...

Does GC ship display inventory when ordering New online?

Yep, spent most of my time there. That's where the 2018 Standard used was. I'm pretty set on the blood orange -- could be swayed by the cherry burst but red guitars are my modus operandi.

Does GC ship display inventory when ordering New online?

Totowa is my closest GC, too. That's where I went multiple times to try their LPs. The did have a 2018 in the first few days I went but then it sold (online no less). I agree that their wall models are usually bin great shape. This is part of the reason I opted to order GC online. It seems...

Does GC ship display inventory when ordering New online?

Unfortunately, in this day and age, the vast majority of small shops find it less lucrative to stock used gear -- specifically _because_ people go online because "it's cheaper". This generates a viscious cycle because: 1. Stores have no used stock to "look at it, play it, buy it" 2. User buys...
