    Horizontal Checking

I'm not worried about it, just never seen the checking happen in that predominant direction. Thanks for the responses guys, much appreciated.

    Horizontal Checking

Interesting. Mine are completely horizontal for the most part - regardless of what angle you look at them. All my pics above are taken with the headstock to the left and at an angle so the light would show the checking - at least so my iPhone could see it.

    Horizontal Checking

I have seen many pictures of checking but I have noticed that most all checking I have seen is vertical on the body with limited horizontal checking. I have a 2001 Custom that has just really started to check with the onset of brutal cold and dry weather in the past few weeks. I have never...

    Show me your customs

To me, there is nothing sexier than a custom. I loved my white custom soo much that I decided to refinish my V to be it's twin (but with silver hardware).

    Refinishing Gibson Flying V Faded

Thanks for the kind words guys. I still promise to get more HQ pics. In low or fluorescent light the color looks more amber/yellow/aged look. In the sun, it looks bright white. I know my iPhone pics don't do it justice.

    Refinishing Gibson Flying V Faded

Olympic White from Reranch definitely isn't Gibson Alpine White. It is a duller almost yellowish off-white. If you want Alpine White I don't think you would be happy with Olympic White.

    Refinishing Gibson Flying V Faded

I do apologize for the updates, or lack thereof. I have had a hectic past few weeks and my father has been spending time on this without me. He got all the color coats - 7 sprayed and 8 clear coats. The guitar was hung for 14 days and he then completed the final sanding and buffing. Today...

    Refinishing Gibson Flying V Faded

Thank you, I just think white guitars are sexy and classy. I picked up my mom's dslr last night so I should be able to snap a few hq pics.

    Refinishing Gibson Flying V Faded

Clear coats are done and it is hanging to cure. I figured 20 days should be sufficient before the final sand and polish. I'll have pics shortly.

Want to refinish my Faded Flying V

Really? I've seen other builds where guys put 4-6 clear coats on and call it good. Most guys I've either spoken with or read about says 14-16 days for clear to cure before final sand/buff. Interesting. Guess I'll have to do some more reading.

    Refinishing Gibson Flying V Faded

The headstock will be white except for the black holly/veneer/whatever it is on the "face" of the headstock. That'll stay black.
