Hard to say with so many years between the fire and it being playable again. The best way to describe it is very "woody" and organic. Hopefully I'll be able to get something recorded this weekend to demo it. As long as the playing isn't mocked too hard that is :D
Wire wool on the back of my 04 neck for 16 years, never an issue. Play quicker and feels better. It's just a piece of wood and a tool to make music, don't be too precious with it.
My advice is to just try anything that fits within your budget. I tried over 50 before I found the "the one" in my 04 standard, and that included a few way over budget custom shop models. Don Felder, your VOS Les Paul is horrible btw.
