1980 was 40+ years ago. I don't like to admit to that to myself because it seems like just last week, but it's true. I'd call that vintage. YMMV, Whateva.
I mean it's a 1.5 hour drive each way to check them. The seller isn't going to pull them. Not a guitar guy, just a guy with a guitar for sale.
But the point is moot. Guitar sold to someone who didn't care or lived closer so that it wasn't most of a day to find out.
Looks like this is all academic for me... someone else bought it.
I'm good with that. Per my other thread in the pickup area, I don't think the original SB's were still in there. Without those it was way overpriced.
Thanks for the help.
Yeah, I know about that... but it's a bit of a ride to check them out. So, I'm trying to figure out if it's worth the time and gas.
I was hoping someone would recognize that bobbin. As I mentioned, it doesn't seem to match the SB's I could find. But it does look like vintage something.
These are in an 80's Gibson (My other thread about the Gibson Spirit). That guitar is supposed to have Shawbuckers. But after getting these close up photos, they don't look like any Shawbucker photos that I can dig up... and I looked at a couple dozen.
There are three holes in the top of the...
I might have a chance at a double-cut Gibson Spirit II with the original Shaw Buckers still installed.
Anyone played one of these? Looks like a double-cut Jr.
How are those early 1980's Shaw buckers? Supposedly Tim Shaw designed them to reproduce the '59 PAF. Are they "from another time" or...
What's "exactly right"? You mean just fits end-to-end and has just the right amount of rise to get up where it needs to be? Or is there something additional I need to do to make it "right".
I fully agree with you both. I only had Nashville's in the past. Always read the rave reviews of the...
So the wire just keeps the saddles from falling out... no mechanical use as part of the bridge function?I can accept that.
Should I push the screw heads as I intonate to make sure they are flat against the bridge front?
First time setting up with an ABR.
The retaining wire can be floating along the top of the screw heads or it can sit down behind them. It holds the saddles from falling out either way.
If it's behind them, it does take up the slack between the screws' inner and outer collars as they go...
That guy does great videos in his "where does the tone come from" series. Everyone should watch the one he does on amp tone. But with this one, I have some issues. There are some holes and assumptions.
On a side tangent, Eric, have you read the translated publication "Physics of the Electric...
I played a new 70's LP Deluxe today. One of these:

I thought the neck would be the 70's deluxe "Slim Taper" that I was used to. It was significantly chunkier than that. Too...
I can't comment on that specific guitar, but I will say that the Epiphone P-90's that I've tried have always been great. if you haven't played any then you're in for a treat. They sing when cranked with just limited amp gain or a pedal on light and they clean right up when rolled back a couple...
Go classic for a "vintage" guitar: https://willcuttguitars.com/products/gibson-brown-leather-strap
Although I think the heel was different on the real vintage ones... V shaped. Have to check my old one.
I'm in my usual afternoon wear: White button down starched shirt; silk tie; double-knit pants. And silk smoking jacket, of course. Ascot is always optional and I'm not wearing one today.
People love to hate on Walmart, but your fellow customers when you order from Amazon are the same folks. Except they are shopping with you in their underwear. Think about that while you "shop" Amazon.
I can't see the added cost of Prime working out for me overall. I order some things from...
That's awesome. I'd follow up with a FEDEXed letter to his manager. Mention the short story that you showed him the plate and he nodded yes... and you'd love something in writing on the back of the photo of the guitar you include with the letter if possible signed by Joe, along with your photo...
Isn't that the definition of microphonic? Tapping is super loud? That was actually what I am calling microphonic. With these, just hitting the pickup cover hard while playing is giving me the clicking and it sounds like an odd overtone to treble notes.
I don't have any place to crank it up...
