Yes. I used 9’s for at least 40 years. I found when I set my action low bends seem to take more effort. I use.38 mm Dunlop picks so I have a gentle touch - let the gear do the work. The 8’s give me the touch I like
It seems the thread can get out of hand a bit.
Everyone seems to have their preferences: Light strings/heavy strings/light action/heavy action/amplified practice or not. That is why there are choices. I try to respect the choices everyone makes and keep an open mind.
When I was a young lad my mother bought me a used Strat and a 5W Symphonic amplifier. My father would never allow me to turn on the amp so I learned to play without using amplification. I wanted to plug it in but feared reprisal.
