Brian makes some awesome stuff. My first build was a Wampler "Cranked AC". Great sounding pedal. Was hoping to meet him at the Nashville NAMM this year, but I waited too long and missed the show.
Glad your diggin' his stuff. :D
Thanks! :D I was hoping my point would come across without sounding like an ass. The boutique pedal arena has it's good and bad like anything else. If you know what to look for and are smart you won't get ripped off.
When people ask what I do I just tell them I make "handmade guitar effects pedals". I don't use the term "boutique" because it seems to have taken on a derogatory meaning and a lot of people may use it as such. I only do this as a hobby and enjoy making other players happy with what I make. I...
To tell you the truth, I have no idea. :o I've only owned one Big Muff and it was a black Russian BM. Didn't care for it. Might have been my amp at the time, I dunno... I think there's usually a big debate which one is best for Gilmour. I think he used several different version throughout the...
Yeah, none of those are even close to the same as a Big Muff. If you like the Muff I'd say go for it. They're not that expensive and it'll be different than those three.
Now you just have to decide which Muff you want to get. LOL That will lead you to the Ram's Head, Triangle, Russian etc...
Big Muff kinda falls into both categories, but I'd say it's more of a distortion than fuzz if you were to compare it to a Fuzz Face or Tonebender type of effect.
What pedals do you already have? There's lots of Big Muff variants/copies out there. You may already have one. :)
Groovy. Well, hope to hear from ya. :thumb: You can follow PenfarFX on Facebook for updates etc.

I have another OD releasing soon and a few others in development. Thanks again for the recognition!
Oh my! Thanks for the praise, Hector. :D Brett has been a huge help to me and does great work. He also did demos for my Aces High distortion and Fat Foot fuzz pedal.
Well, C5 is the input capacitor(according to the schematic I linked to). When you touch that with the probe I assume you get a dry guitar signal, no gain, right? Then no sound after that? Did you touch the lugs on the gain pot also?
You previously said that you get sound when you touch C5 to C4...
Great looking builds everyone! Love the braided wires you got in there, FF! Those bare metal ones look great, siore. Are they etched?
Here's some of mine...

Yep, IC1a. :thumb: That's the first "stage" of the dual opamp. I would start by checking the connections to the gain pot and board. If it was me, I'd make an audio probe:
Simple Circuit Debugging
Kind of tedious, but I had to do it once. It was helpful and handy to know later on. You...
If your pedal matches the schematic found HERE when you connect those capacitors you're bypassing the gain stage. That's why there's no control. Which leads me to believe you may have a bad connection on that first stage of the IC.
The Multi-Face is a great project.
Like guitar_slinger8 said, switching the BC180's out for the BC183's shouldn't be a big deal if they're both NPN's and they're socketed. Biasing may be a factor. Then you'd have to do some soldering. Just check the datasheet for both transistors to match the...

Hmm... Hard to say without seeing it, really. Yours doesn't match the one in the photos? Do you have the custom board in it now or the Guv'nor board? Could be a number of things. If you had some photos of your guts it may help. You can PM me also if you want. I can try to help you out.
Yeah, Brett is great! He has a lot of styles to pull from to showcase the peadals. Gearmanndude has his good qualities, but lately his demos have been a little lackuster.
Thanks! :thumb: When I'm trying to develop something I really try to stay away from making a re-hash of a Fuzz Face or Tube...
