They look basically the same, but I'd like to know which is better quality.
I ordered SM stuff before and the quality is pretty good.
But I've always thought their prices were too high.
Back in 2013 I built my first guitar, an LP custom, with the help of this forum.
I bought Grover Keystone tuners and now want to switch to locking tuners.
I'm looking for gold with pearloid buttons, but I'm not sure which will fit.
My headstock measures 16.1mm thick, which I believe is...
Another questions....I put 6 wet coats of clear.
How long do you guys wait before sanding and polishing?
On my Les Paul Custom clone, I had about 12 coats of clear and waited a month, but Stew Mac painting instructions mentions 10-14 days.
As for pictures, everything in drying now, so I don't...
I carefully removed all the tape..
I was in a situation where I taped everything off, spray 3 color coats one day, the next day 3 more.
Then had to wait a week or two till the weather cleared for spraying, then waited another week or two till I finally finished spraying the...
Finally had good enough weather to paint after waiting weeks....anyway, I masked off the neck and spray painted just the top headstock.
When can I move the masking tape?
I don't want to risk pulling the paint off, so how long do I wait before I can remove it?
I painted these 2 bodies by tinting nitro lacquer.
I wanted midnight blue, but somehow I got this purple..oh well.
Due to humid and rainy weather, both bodies have been drying for about 3 weeks and now I'm ready for my clear.
Do I have to sand the color coat? It's Nitro, so the clear...
Ahh...the fresh smell of lacquer :applause:
I sprayed some coats to 50/50 as suggested. I did sand with 800 in the middle of the process to knock down some roughness, but it's smooth now.
I did it very light each time and used about 10 fl. oz. on each one.
I can still see the wood...
That's exactly why I want to stick with the same product and not mix different paints...for compatibility.
What is the consensus for the guitar cavities? To tape off or not to tape off?
I painted everything when I sprayed my Les Paul.....but on this guitar I want to use conductive paint for...
On that guitar I posted above, I think I waited about 30 days before sanding...once the weather is "better" I'll plan to paint...right now it's like rain every other day...
Thanks again everyone.
So I'll thin the nitro a little and spray on my first coats as a sealer then sand off the rough spots.
Most likely I'll be using the Mohawk Nitro which you can spray without thinning.....if I thin it, how much should it be thinned?
Also, how long do you guys usually wait...
I have an Alder body I'd like to paint a mid-night blue and I'm planning to use nitro lacquer and tint it to the desired blue.
Do I need to use primer, and if so can I use regular automotive type primer? Or can I just start spraying with my tinted nitro lacquer on bare wood and polish...
I've build a Les Paul custom in 2013 that I posted here, but unfortunately, the pics are no longer here...
Prior to that I refretted 2 guitars, and made a custom neck, so I have dabbled with guitar building...
I don't mind building the necks....but I'll see what i decide.
I bought 2 of these necks hoping to build an ESP George Lynch banana headstock type guitar.
I wasn't hoping for "quality" so to...
Well, it is old...but it's assembled in Mexico if that makes any difference.
I got it about 5-6 years ago but it was used.
And when I say I'm using my galaxy s4 to record, I literally mean, using the voice recorder app, placing it on a chair facing the speaker....I mean it works, but doesn't...
Yep...so after a little more research, I did see this focusrite.
I guess I can plug my mic into the interface, and then USB it to my laptop which has reaper to record...
Is this more less how's it's done?
I just built an slo clone and want to record myself.
Right now I use my galaxy s4 placed on the top of the back of the chair and about 2 ft away parallel to my 2x12 speaker.
Needless to say it doesn't represent the true sound...surprise surprise.
I do have a Shure 545sd mic and cable but...
