Completely agree. If the binding had been shorter, it would've made the curve around the horn and the subsequent bend up in the cutaway much easier! I'll do it differently next time for sure. As I said, I'll use the heat gun more liberally next time as well. I used a hair dryer on this one...

A little progress over the weekend. Got my binding installed and sanded flush. I'm happy with it for my first time. There are a couple of small gaps around the horn, but not too bad. I figured I'd scrape out the glue as best as I can and use some mahogany filler to fill the gaps. I got a...

Got my binding ledge routed today. The True Channel jig makes this job idiot-proof. Seriously, I was kinda worried about getting this done cleanly, but this thing made it so easy. PIcked it up second hand, so I didn't have to drop 3 (or more) bills on it. Highly recommend. I know StewMac...

    1979 Greco EG600PR?

Thanks! It really is a great guitar! I'm wondering if these are U-1000 pickups? Some of the info I've found says the UDs started in late 1979, and this is a January 1979 build. The pickups date to December of 1978. Regardless, I'm really happy with it. I may change up the wiring so the...

    Headstock Inlay

Do we have any resident inlay cutters here in the forum? I need one cut and I don't have the time to put into it (or the desire, to be honest!). Thanks!

Thanks so much! I'm happy with it so far. Honestly, after you read some of the build threads from @nuance97, Bartlett, ExNihilo among others, I might as well be using caveman tools! Mine won't be anywhere near as perfect as those. Kudos on making nuts! I've actually not done a bone nut from...

I greatly appreciate that! I'll see if I get any other responses before I enlist your help! I've cut a couple before, but this one's a little more in depth than I want to attempt right now. Again, many thanks! Yeah I just had the thought that you might approve of that, due to your username...

Pretty simple really, but more than I want to attempt at the moment. I'm already seeing my time available to work on this build dwindling, unfortunately. I just want the word "Gospel" in the Gibson size and font.

Question, I've cut my own inlays before, but I really don't want to do this one. Are there any inlay cutters here on the forum I should reach out to? Thanks in advance Thanks! I wrestled with doing a volute or not, but ultimately decided to just do it. I'm not building to vintage spec...

    1979 Greco EG600PR?

I should mention that this guitar was packed EXTREMELY well and is in spectacular playing condition. The frets look like they were dressed and a full setup done. I'm very impressed with this seller and would wholeheartedly recommend them. I feel like I stole it, to be honest. Communication...

It's much less "clowny" in person!

    1979 Greco EG600PR?

Well, I can't believe it, but it was delivered today. They shipped it on Saturday from Japan. That's quicker than most carriers are delivering anything these days. Might as well have been Amazon Prime. Amazing. Anyway, it's a beauty! It's in better shape than it looked in the listing. I...

Well, first costly mistake. My inlay template wasn't indexed correctly to my fretboard and the inlay routs ended up way off. They were centered perfectly, but were shifted toward the nut. I ordered another fretboard and will use the first one to make sure I reposition it correctly. It had to...

Thanks! Yeah, I'm going to look into different methods and perhaps do the next one differently. The rasp method is time consuming, but it's almost therapeutic to me. I also like it because I feel like I have complete control. I appreciate the recommendation! I'm not terribly concerned...

I got my neck carved over the past couple of days. Waiting on the correct downcut bit for my Bartlett trapezoid template as well as my binding ledge router jig, so I thought I'd go ahead and get this part done. It's not the first time I've carved a neck, but I had forgotten how much I enjoy...

    1979 Greco EG600PR?

Thanks Roxy! Just from hanging around here a bit, it seems you're one of the resident experts on MIJ guitars! How was the price on this one? It seemed cheaper than most that I've seen? Hoping I did ok!

    1979 Greco EG600PR?

Just got pics of the sides. It does appear to be pancake construction, though it doesn't look like it has a layer of maple in the middle. Just looks like 2 pieces of mahogany glued together. I guess this is typical of this model? Interesting.
