That’s a great looking guitar.
New old stock?! What a fabulous find!
Candy Apple Red is just such a fabulous classic colour for a Strat. There’s a bloody good reason that my first Strat was CAR! I can’t believe it’s now thirty years old! :wow:
I can see why it...
Great find!! HNGD!! :dude:
I have three MIJ Strats: 1986 ST62, 1987 ST57 and 1989 ST54. They're all great guitars. The pups and electronics did vary as there were several price-points within each model and also changed from year-to-year. Nevertheless, they are usually great guitars and...
That's an absolute beauty! Not a "classic" Lester finish by any means, but all the more intriguing because of it -- and a real looker nonetheless! I love it! Glad to hear it has a "sweet-spot" neck carve too.
The Apex headstock seems a sensible functional compromise and it...
For a rescue-job on a worn-out husk, that thing is fabulous!
It’s a great combination: P90 + PAF, single volume / single tone. What a great way to do a stripped-back Lester set-up!
The top and the ‘burst are spectacular too — and I’m right with you on just doing the scraped faux...
Yep, I’ll second that!
I’ve been waiting for a P90 ‘50s to show up as an NGD post — I’m surprised it’s taken this long!
I’m not surprised, however, to hear that it’s a screaming blues machine! Attaboy!!
Tomorrow’s gonna be hot and humid with crazy thunderstorms (although possibly not as hot, humid or crazy thunderstormy as some of y’all are gonna see...)
Anyhoo, in honor of a certain anniversary, tomorrow is a non-guitar building day:
My daughter had a friend for a sleepover and...
Your Unburst is spectacular! Beautiful Lester!
As it appears in that photo, the burst on yours looks pretty much exactly like that on my ‘16 Trad in Light Burst — although in my experience they’re tricky finishes to photograph accurately.
I know that even between guitars with the same finish...
I guess there are two distinct answers to this, both elucidated above.
The initial use was a play on the term “Sunburst” for the original vintage finish, but to indicate that it had faded to the point of more-or-less losing its ‘burst.
The new iteration is Gibson using that play-on-words...
Just fabulous! HNGD! :dude:
The more I think about this, the more I want a Standard ‘50s GT — but the P90 version rather than the HBs. I’m seriously considering trading my ‘14 Standard to fund this growing GAS.
I liked these very much for value-at-price-point and came very close to buying a blackguard Baja on a couple of occasions but got beaten to the punch each time, much to my irritation!
In due course, I ended up picking up a fantastic 1985 MIJ TL52 instead — and that well and...
@Dr.Tj — Just a few thoughts...
1. Don’t go anywhere near your guitar with WD40...!! It’s a lubricant oil, not a cleaner. It has no place in routine guitar care!
2. When you say you took the strings off and put it away, do you mean that it’s sitting somewhere without strings...? If so...
Ooh, ooh, ooh — I remember that one...!! Idiosyncratic and unique but awesome all the same! :dude:
I’d forgotten it has robot tuners though!
Thinking of some of the comments above: yes, I can see why modern plastic components, likely sourced to a price rather than a decent specification...
