An overwhelming response to my post! Thanks to everyone who replied! I see that now there is even a new thread about people who play Tele's more than their LP lol.
Please keep the replies and pics coming. My intention was never to stir the pot as much as ee if anyone else has had a...
That's how I was. I always hated the look of the HSS Strats - they just always looked a bit cockeyed to me. But one day I tried the EVH Striped and I realized they sound pretty good! Give one a go sometime.
Good post. I'm quite the personality for trying new things as well when its comes to...
Congrats! I worked with Lance last month. first time buying from Wildwood and had a fantastic experience with customer service many other places could learn from. Ended up returning because I didn’t bond with the guitar and even then he was very understanding and helpful.
I bought a Les Paul Standard 60s a couple months back but ended up returning it because it didn’t do it for me.
Latest buy that I kept was back in September - Jackson USA Adrian Smith San Dimas. Loving it and plays like a dream.
@GrandJunction on the two “Strats” I have, the volume knob is a bit farther away than on the regular Fender Strat so that helped me.
On my Jackson, it’s also a high friction knob, so those two changes have helped me tons.
Interesting point on familiarity @Dilver. Personally, I have spent the...
One thing to note about the 68 RI Customs is that, although they may be a tick above the Standard USA Custom, they have a chunkier neck than the regular Custom. That was a dealbreaker for me but I also like thinner necks.
The Standard 60s seems redundant considering you already have a Standard 50s and a Classic. All you’re getting is a neck profile between both of those and different pickups.
Customs have a whole different feel and tone because of the hotter pickups and ebony fretboard. So I’d go Custom.
I have...
T-tops are less hot than 57s, aren’t they?
I have a Brandenwound clone set in my Les Paul Custom now and the bridge is a little too anemic for me. Neck is ok but I think it’s probably getting swapped for a pickup PAF-style also for a bit more sweetness but I know many love a T-Top in the neck...
I have a Jackson Adrian Smith with the Fender Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickups in the middle and neck position and I really like them.
I think a lot of purists will tell you they neuter the tone of a true, wide-open single coil but to me, I like the way they sound and even under high gain...
Thank you for this! Very interesting stuff and will definitely be giving it a go. The steel plate is definitely not something I have seen/heard before.
Can’t wait to hear more whenever you get around to it.
I personally don’t really have a problem with the different scale lengths between Fender and Gibson. Sometimes, I actually feel like the longer Fender scale length makes me a more accurate player and gives me a bit more margin for error vs the tighter and more precise scale length of my Les...
Would be interested to hear more on this, i.e. what makes a strat "tick", detrimental primary setup issues and how to remedy/take advantage of what it does.
That makes perfect sense to me. A Strat is a tool you use to make music. A Les Paul is an experience, dare I say, privilege.
I consider Fender to be similar to the Android world - generally lower cost of entry, tons of customization, wide user base with many flavors from various manufacturers...
Thank you! It seems at this point these are the 3 keepers (I’ve proved myself wrong before though haha). Typically I always try and keep 3 guitars total but it seems if I ever GAS for anything else, I may have to raise my limit now…
I’ve tried the SG a few times in the past but didn’t jive with...
Haha they definitely are not your most traditional Strats which I have tried and passed on, but the shape and feel definitely is very similar and there's definitely something to be said about that. I'm sure most will agree that the feel of the instrument is one of the most important things and...
The Les Paul has always and will always have a special place in my heart. Certainly not bashing it in any way. Every time I plug it in, I still love the rich tone I get from it, especially for the music I am playing. But it certainly feels tougher for me to play as of late, compared to the...
Long-story short, my Les Paul Custom has been gathering dust lately as I continue to play my Strat-style guitars.
I know Strats are known for their shimmery cleans and their punchy neck pickups but as someone who's main influences are Randy Rhoads, Matthias Jabs, Michael Schenker, Slash, Gary...
