I believe that the stolen burst was photographed for beauty of the burst. Thats about all I know. Same for Beano, they are in private collectors hands and other private collectors know whose hands.
I do know that there was a tale from a member here where during the 70's/80's a guitar dealer...
Hi folks, so simple question for my college design course, how many of you have had problems with instruments getting damaged durings shipping? How much of a problem do you consider it to be? What measures do you take to protect isntruments? And do you think there is potential for a specific...
Hey Folks,
Quickie, what do you folks reckon is the best bet for a vintage-style nitro that will age and check and all the good stuff that is available in the UK? Please no rattle cans, I want to mix my own colours and UV darken it etc.
Cheers!
I am very much a proponent of playing wear and tear, it looks great when you have chips and nicks but when the rest of the guitar is mint and there is just a great chunk out of the top... nah I want it fixed! Another potential problem for me redoing it is I have a small inkling it has gone down...
Hahaha, lots of people ask that, I believe the warehouse is still there but in danger of being demolished at the moment. My uncle used to work there in the 50's so lots of history there!
As for the guitar, I don't even know if its worth getting the insurance sorted for the price of a dent...
Welp. It finally happened. I finally took a chunk out of one of my guitars... the one time I decided not to put my favourite acoustic straight back in the case, my laptop slides off the bed and whack! Straight into the spruce top. FUCK!
Good news, I literally insured it YESTERDAY!
Not so good...
So an opportunity to buy an advertised "genuine" 54 Goldtop has arisen, which would be my first "vintage" Gibson, and in looking up the serial number online it could be from 53-54 as advertised or from the 90s as a reissue. Guy says his uncle bought it in the 80s-90s, the headstock looks worn as...
I won't lie, it fulfills a lifelong dream as well, but it does genuinely serve an academic purpose! I have actually sorted something out so thank you all for your replies and help!
Hello, so basically I am writing an essay for my design course at Bournemouth University about guitar design- particulary the burst and what it is that makes it quite so special- was it clever design or by accident? Do they command such a high price because they are the "modern Stradivarius" or...
Funnily enough I just saw this, and was about to make a post here. Lots about this guitar screams wrong to me. The fact he is trying to flog £300,000 worth of guitar on Ebay is pretty high on the list...
As I said I use the gretsch because it is an affordable tank and sounds ace, but I dont mind it being a beater, but like I just imagine forgetting to do up the latches on my Les Paul case... shudder.
So I got out the car from band practise last night, slung my guitar over my shoulder, and cringed in horror as a noise like a can being crushed through an amplifier rung out from behind me. Turns out the bottom of my gig bag was actually open, and I hadn't as I had previously thought, zipped it...

I fully agree with this. Eric makes some very good points, but I genuinely think that when the 20 somethings of today are retired, and the blues lawyers have gone, the demand for what remains of the bursts will dwindle very seriously. I am 21, and I genuinely see in no way shape or form will I...
So I was thinking and I thought, "hey, I wonder what will happen when the people like Clapton, Page, Beck and Richards die, and the people who were inspired by them directly start to retire from touring and playing live, and the new breed of millenial guitarists come up to middle age, what will...
