I've used them in the past, and they do the job well. No problems.
As to tuning stability, well if you contrast using these with wrapping the string around the post 7 times then you should probably find they positively impact tuning stability :)
I've moved on to Shallers now because I prefer...
Just have to do the Samurai inlay on the back of the LP model, and drill the bridge and tailpiece holes on the 22 Special, then both these guitars, the bass, and a Strat neck are ready for finishing, which I'll be doing in about 2 weeks.
I have the Stewmac guitar vise, and I also have this guy...
Its a leg vise primarily for blacksmith work, and I use it constantly in that pursuit.
Its made entirely of solid steel forgings, not cast iron. You can clamp hot steel in it, and bash on it with a sledge hammer and it wont crack or...
So this'll be the last of this build I'll post here till its finished. I didn't do a build thread on it because I was doing one on my own website, I was somewhat limited on time, and I think I did 2 previous build threads on this same model :)
I love how the abalone inlays just light up in some...
I agree with Joe. I like tradition but im not married to it. the 3 models I make that are "mine" are really just my take on what other companies (PRS, Fender, Gibson) have already done, plus my construction preferences, aesthetic and ergonomic changes to suit my own tastes (and avoid lawsuits!)...
In fact its the one in the middle, so 2nd from the right :)
the colors do change depending on viewing angle and room lighting.
Looking from the other side before installing theyall appear the same color, although my replacement piece in the middle has a rougher finish at this point than the...
got this done today. one of the 3 upper fret inlays broke in 3 pieces but I have a pile of shell blanks and had one long enough and a perfect color match so I remade that one by hand. Guess which one…
Ignore the lens distortion, the pickup cavities are identical in size.
A minor adjustment to my design for these is the way I cut in around the top end of the neck riser (for lack of a better term for it), and fit the top around it. This is so the fretboard will overlap onto the maple top.
Its top clamping day. I got 22 clamps in there including the gigantic home made maple clamp. I actually wound up with one extra clamp I couldn't fit in there...
Yeah mine are solid shell. Ive never tried abalam before, although I actually have a few blanks. I never thought what might happen when sanding a radius. Are yours already glued in? If no, you could always try sanding a piece to see what happens...
I love the inlays. :)
I'm using a similar abalone inlay set on the 22 Special I'm currently building.
Yours seem a little more colorful though. Where did you get them?
I got these trapezoids from DePaule. My logo and the other one came from elsewhere
