I spent so much time in front of huge, cranked-up amps "back in the day" that now I can't stand loud anything, not just music.

For instance, if I'm at a bar or a club and I can't carry on a conversation unless I'm screaming in someone's ear, then it's too damned loud.

I think that's actually illegal in the US. According to the CALM act of 2010, a commercial can only be as loud as its programming.
Yeah, allegedly. I've heard that many times. I never noticed the issue get any better since then. I mostly forget about it in this day of streaming and no commercials. But every once in a while I'll watch something on Hulu or Prime and it's got ads and holy fuck they are loud!

That's a good thing. Between concerts and my own band back then I'm definitely suffering some consequences

I have the occasional Tinnitus flair up......

Not sure if its the music or years of cutting Aluminum with a chop saw and working on sights with loud power tools etc....

Impact drivers are very damaging.
I wear ear plugs if I have to drill more than a few screws.

Being a body man for over 30 years I was always very safety conscious at work, but the rules seem to have gone out the window when I am working on things at home..
Many times I have stopped myself while doing something at home and thinking this is really stupid to be doing this with no protection what so ever.
From the time I was maybe 14 or so I have been bathing in motor oil, carb cleaner and brake clean and have had no adverse effects body wise and also spent two years pumping gas and breathing in all the fumes when I was 16..
I know sooner or later its going to catch up to me but at 66 nothing yet..

all of the above...but I'll wager a guess that the frequency of cutting aluminum would be brutal.

Cutting aluminum extrusion with chop saw using Non Ferrous blade stings and rings

I almost always wear ear protection when using power tools and always have.....

But on the job sites loud sounds can get random and catch you off guard....

My hearing is still excellent for ny age but a bit of loud noise at or above 1k will induce some ringing in my left ear and it can take a day or 2 calm down.

Movies have gotten louder to the point of not being able to hear the dialogue. I hate that. Many TV's and soundbars have setting to increase the dialogue. Helps a little. Why don't they just make movies so you can hear what the fuck the people are saying.
What movies are you watching?

Albums, or music in general, are now mostly mixed assuming it will be listened to on shitty $5 ear buds so everything is heavily compressed with zero dynamic range. So you can crank up your tunes and the volume will be loud, but it sounds wimpy.

I never realized this until I heard a heavily compressed version of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit". Those drums on the original normally hit hard. The guitar had growl. This version sounded like ass in comparison. It was quite an eye opener.

We went and saw F1 the movie a couple of weeks ago, and it was loud during the race scenes.
Felt good!

I really enjoyed that movie. Surprisingly, my wife who gives zero fucks about anything motorsport related got really into it too. Definitely a good one to see in the theater with all those high intensity racing scenes.

Well, the crowd is a bit older and a bit smaller...
Folks can't drink themselves silly till the wee hours anymore because it'll cost them probably $10K and weekly visits to a bathroom downtown... Folks are far more conservative now.... Fewer 'party animas' that want it louder'n two hells so they can get their inner Neanderthal on...

Clubs have changed and many cater to folks that tend to drink upper shelf liquor with the lowest bottle pay count....not the Bufordry that will suck on one beer or two that really drink in the car during breaks....

Fewer full blown loud ass Rock-n-Roll clubs anymore... Venues are many times dual as in venue AND food so they can try to make more money because venues are generally smaller now... Not as many folks out partying, many party at home....

Different world than my younger full-time circuit days... Clubs used to be 4-6 nights/wk gigs...usually 2-week rotations and contracts.... Played to about full clubs all week... Now places may be Fri/Sat or just Fri OR Sat.... Many now as above food and drink so they may have one guy in the corner at low end of low volume....

Money band I worked in waaaaaay back, we had fronts in five figures (wattage), full lighting surround w/ trusses plus Rains across floor in front. We had Marshall's on stage.... I had the Albino 800 (all live cabs walled & 57'd for both of us) and all my KBs when not playing guitar...and we ran a quiet stage.... We could mix our floors as we wanted and we could carry on a conversation on stage but cross that plane of the mains and it was like walking into a barrage.... It was nice...

We could do a Journey tune, lead singer singing his ass off and I'd say a Whopper with extra cheese.... He could clearly hear me blathering several feet away.....
