I've have/had a Cox e-mail address for years. A couple of years ago, Cox Communications announced that they were not going to support their e-mail division anymore and transferred it to Yahoo.

So now, when someone sends an email to my cox.net address, it shows up in Yahoo's e-mail website.

Everything has been working pretty well since this change occurred until recently. I get emails that I read and want to keep for a while.

These emails remain for a few days then mysteriously disappear. Any idea why this happens and where do they go?

For example, I bought a new Intex air bed from Walmart.com and I bought the 2 year extended warranty which they emailed to me. This warranty email stayed in my inbox for 2 or 3 days then disappeared.

:wtf:

Can you find it with the search function?

You should be able to create a folder to save important emails to, for the future.

I know that Gmail is starting to get uptight about storage space and using it to try to sell additional storage.

FWIW - I would create a yahoo or google email for new business and only use the old Cox address for old business.

My sister still uses some ancient accounts which are no longer supported. That is not a particularly good look and might make you more of a target to exploits.

JMHO.

I've been using Gmail almost exclusively for 20 years. I have a 2nd Google account for administration of my Blogger photography site although I have not updated it in years, but pay an annual fee for my domain name. I have a Microsoft Outlook account with a live.ca address for mostly Microsoft things. Years ago i had a Netscape email, but they transferred it to Yahoo and changed the user name. I still have that email account but nothing goes there.

i checked my usage with Gmail and I've only used 2.1 GB of the available 15 GB. I don't save promo emails and only save invoice purchase emails, not the tracking or shipping emails.
So far I have yet to delete the emails from a former online female friend, because she has on occasion tore into me for my masculine transgressions and other imagined slights. Over the years there have been some nasty emails sent to me so I keep them for posterity :laugh2:

I've been expecting a hammer to fall for probably 10 years.
My old ISP went out of business, and were taken over by another company.
At the time, my DSL service was provided through my ISP
That relationship was severed when Verizon decided they wanted to service ONLY Verizon accounts... and then within a few months, they got taken over by Frontier... which was horrible, so we switched to Spectrum cable.

Meanwhile, the original ISP is still in business, and I pay $10/mo to maintain a dialup account with my original email address.
I have so much tied up on that address that there's no way in hell I'd be able to change it... logins, including smart-home devices, warranties, friends/relatives, etc....

I'm not about to switch over to a Charter/Spectrum email and have the same thing happen that would have happened when Verizon sold out to Frontier.

Buy your own domain.
Once you do that, you never have to worry about this kind of thing ever again.
And, you can have as many email accounts as the domain will handle.
Like thdnut@mypinklespaulrocks (dot) com
And, once you do that you tend to drop off the spam email list.
I have several emails in my private domain. Once for business, and one for junk.

Thanks for the replies, lots of good information.

I just found some very recent emails that disappeared from my inbox in the spam repository. I moved them back into my inbox.

I hardly ever go to the spam box. I guess I'll have to go there a little more often.

Are you using a mail app on your phone or pc? Try logging directly into your mail through a browser and see if your missing mail is there. A friend had the same problem and it's messy, I convinced him to move over to Gmail. Once you move over to Gmail you can setup mail forwarding from your old email to Gmail.
