Anyone have a Gibson brand amber top hat knob that you could measure the diameter for me? I’m trying to fit them on my 60s Standard Les Paul, but I’m afraid they wont fit inside the thumb bleeders. Thanks!

Consider a set of vintage style top hat knobs from Philadelphia luthier. They sit up above the pointers, and they look much more vintage correct than Gibson USA knobs. The numbers are embossed on the inside and then painted gold. The numbers are more vivid and they are very affordable. You might like them

If they're Gibson branded ones, they should fit on the pots of Gibsons, or otherwise American made pots perfectly fine. I switched to gold knobs on my #1 LP a couple of weeks ago, they slid right on the pots exactly right. They're the same size and diameter as the Amber ones, or ought to be. That's with a guitar that has a RS Guitar Kit wiring harness on it, but I don't see why it would be different with a proper Gibson wiring system.

Philly Luthier is a good option and a bit cheaper, my only advice is that if you're gonna go that way, make sure you buy the knobs that specify that they are for American made guitars/pots - the ones for Epiphones or other imports use "coarse splines"; the ones meant for American made guitars use "fine splines".

The op isn’t talking about the diameter of the pot shaft, he’s talking about the diameter of the top hat knobs. If they’ll fit with the thumb bleeders.

Word, my bad then.

They should fit inside the thumb bleeders. I have Amber knobs from Philly Luthier and they're the exact same size as the gold Gibson ones on my Les Paul. They fit comfortably inside them.

I bought some after-market knobs for my "poor man's R6" along with Gibson pointers, and the knobs fit inside the thumb-bleeders perfectly.
