Wife’s oldest boy got married last year.
They bought an old house.
Now they got a baby on the way.

Adulting is a challenge for both of them.
He got into a good job, and he makes good money, but they’re BROKE.

I can’t count how many vehicles both of them have gone through, but now they decided they needed a family vehicle.

At least they were smart, buying used.
2021 GMC Yukon.
They came by the house with it a couple months ago to show it off, and I started noticing damage on the vehicle that evidently they were unaware of.

The left front inner fender liner is GONE.
Wires hanging for the side marker light.
WTF?
Why didn’t you have the dealer fix this?

“Oh … uh … I dunno …”

The entire front bumper cap has been repainted, and they did a shitty job of matching the paint.
What other kind of damage is in there?

Dude, you’re a husband now.
Gonna be a father.
You gotta take care of business.
You are a provider - a protector.

“Yeah, I know…”

It has mismatched tires on it.
The back two are almost bald.
You need to fix that.

“Yeah, I know…”

Bend down here, and look in that fender.
Look at all the electronic shit that’s gonna get pelted without a fender liner.

“Yeah, I know…”

No, you fucking DON’T.

As a baby shower gift, I told him I would buy five Michelins and a fifth factory aluminum wheel for it.
I will take care of it.

Tomorrow was my plan, get the tires on it. She was driving to work this morning and had a flat.
Sumbitch.

OK, I’ll come get the goddamn truck.
I left her my wife’s minivan.
Got the tires on it today, and now I’m getting an alignment done.

Went by a body shop, and they have the fender liner ordered. If it’s here tomorrow, they will get it installed for me.

I understand that money is tight.
I understand that they both are busy and working their asses off. I understand that she’s pregnant with her first child and every day can be a struggle.
I get it.

But the boy’s gotta step it the fuck up.
Man Card’s in danger of being suspended.

I'd buy all those tires and shit for em, then they'd trade the vehicle off for one with bad tires and shit.

Ain't no way I'd do that. Until somehow I knew it was gonna be with em a while.

I got trust issues with throwing good money after bad. Too many times been bitten.

Oh, don’t think that didn’t cross my mind.
That’s why I waited a couple of months.

And I employed the wife to gather some intelligence for me - I asked her a couple of times how the young mother-to-be likes her Yukon. Expressed some real curiosity.

Wife says, “Oh, I don’t know.”
Well ask her. I wanna know.

She finally asked her a couple different times, and got an innocent conversation going. She loves the truck, and she’s happy with it.

OK, that’s what I needed to know.

So I rolled the dice.

You did a good deed Lee.

Even if the kid hasn’t got a clue about vehicles, you and his mom can rest easy knowing they’ll be safer now in that one.

Maybe walk him around it one day pointing out and explaining to him those things he needs to pay attention to and how they work. There could be a reason why they’ve been thru so many cars!

For him?
It’s easy.
He thinks he can afford them.

But he’s terrible with maintenance.

He’s pretty handy around the house, but he will limp with the dumbest shit on a vehicle.

We’ve had these conversations before.
Always the same.
He will smile and say, “Yeah, I know.”

Sooner or later, he’ll get tired of me pissing in his ear. At some point, he’s got to figure it out.

Absolutely.
I’m doing my best to make sure she understands that she is entitled to be treated like a queen.
Mother of his child, after all.

I managed to escape those lessons for years, through the birth of my first child.
Paid a heavy price for it later.

I’m not going to sit idly by and watch it happen to him.

Maybe you could offer him some advice...??

Tell him he has to know what he doesn't know. And when he gets the furrowed brow and the but, but, stutter, you can tell him "if he's not sure, or doesn't know, ask". That simple. If he asks you then you help him if you can. If he doesn't ask, then "sorry, you assumed and didn't ask."

Like 'ol @SteveC likes to say..... "life is hard for the stupid"

He’s kind of a Forrest Gump.

Had a learning disability in school, and always thought he was dumb.

But he’s extremely bright and excels at everything he does. One day he decided to do leather working. He created some amazing pieces.
Got into photography for a little while.
Skydiving.

Plays guitar, started doing the singer-songwriter acoustic sets in bars everywhere.
I think he’s borderline autistic.
And he’s friendly as could be, but he’s kind of like a balloon that sort of drifts with the wind.

Has an attention span about the length of an eyelash.

Great guy, but he’s entered into a new realm with marriage and fatherhood.
I think he’s going to be OK, but he’s going to need a push from time to time.

He’s a lot different than I was at his age. My problem was simple.
I was simply a selfish asshole.
He’s a people pleaser.
I didn’t give a rat’s ass.
And I didn’t mind a brawl now and then.

De-humidifier makes 20 micro-wave-like beeps when full.
Hilarious.
Kind of overkill.

If you're not there to hear, say, three; you're not going to hear a dozen.
But going thru twenty; it makes me laugh every time.

Bobby Sherman passed.

Having a thunderstorm for the last 20 min or so. Closest flash seems to be within a mile. Moderate rain.
70F and 95%

More shopping - power adapter and coupler (battery placeholder) for the wee Canon. It allows the camera to be used as a web cam with continuous power, or simply used remotely on AC power.
Canon is clearing the kits out because the platform is dead.
Would be even cheaper if I bought a generic kit off Amazon, but I'm OK with saving $100 on the Canon gear.
