This is an important work of art hanging in the d'Orsay. It's by Gustave Courbet, and it's titled, "The Origin of the World”.
The story behind it, and its importance in the lineage of art, is beyond scope (I guess I could go all @Roberteaux, but I'm pretty exhausted playing filmmaker, these days).
Suffice to say, it was an adventure with our Tranny guide, who handled this with impeccable taste and humor. One does have to see the humor in it all, yes?

We were there May 8th - the day after Paris Saint-Germain defeated Arsenal 2-1 in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final match - and our guide kept remarking how empty the place was. The fact that the entire city was up getting hammered until 4AM the night before might have had something to do with it.
