When home shopping here in Florida, there were lots of homes with a single car garage, but that was no bueno for me. Gotta have the space a two car garage provides for my truck and mommas car. Too much nasty weather here to park em outside.

Funny story. We found a nice house and it had a two car garage, but my truck wouldn’t fit in it. My wife loved the house and was so upset with me and begged me to buy a car that would fit and get rid of the truck. I said no.
Now she thanks me for that decision because although the house was near the beach, but in no man’s freaking land! 20 minutes to the nearest grocery store, and 30 minutes to any kind of other shopping or restaurants. She shops just about every day somewhere.

Plus one needs that garage space for their golf cart!

i'd prefer a 2 car garage, but it's not a deal breaker.

car gone, cans are gone, it's just me and a suitcase at this point. and a bed that i need to drag to the curb. going to lunch with a neighbor.

flying out of O'hare? Florida, here I come.

Actually haven't been to FL since '98. Don't really want to visit again, probably won't want to come back. I hate to sound like a snowbird but I'd really like to not deal with winter anymore. Now, do I feel like dealing with hurricanes, alligators, snakes, bugs the size of dinner plates, or the greatest hazard of all, Florida man/woman? Because it's such a rhetorical question, I can probably get away with answering "yes". But unless I wish to contribute to the homeless population down there, for now here I will stay.

Have a good trip down, and glad to have ya join us down here!

I would suggest taking your time finding a house, and don’t settle. There’s always good places around. Get a good feel for the areas and look in the hoods that look and feel good.

Thanks everyone.

A bunch of neighbors stopped by to say goodbye, and a lot of them vacation down there so I will see them again.

I took my best friend/neighbor out to dinner and he dropped me off at the hotel. I had to make one more stop at Jameson's.

Lobby bar, a couple cold ones and it's bedtime. Big day tomorrow.

It really was like eating an elephant one small bite of a time. More bites to go, but at least the difficult one is over. Thank you, Steve. I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures from your trip.

I've had an eye on that market in those neighborhoods for years. Twice I've been down there and looked at houses online and drove around to see them. I'm not gonna do anything too fast. But I don't wanna stay at my brother's very long either.

Actually his area there on the west coast is pretty dry right now.

But we’re getting slammed here on the Atlantic side!

Here’s another tidbit of information when it comes to buying a house in Florida.

The insurance companies suck here.

Be sure to have your realtor check and see if ANY insurance claims have been made on the house you may be looking at.

Most insurance companies here will not insure a home that has had a previous claim, no matter how small or long ago.

I found this out the hard way as our previous owner had made a small claim for an A/C duct leak in the attic, that caused some condensation and mold on a rafter.

We had to look high and low, and finally found one, that unfortunately quit insuring homes in Florida a year later, and we had to go through the whole deal all over again.
