Well, I’ve made my position on the Lightning Guitars tailpiece very clear.

I own eight of them.

I want to get one of these stop tailpieces.

Only my 22 Standard 60s didn’t benefit from one because of the neck angle and the bridge height being so low.
Strings didn’t touch the bridge at all, so it kept the factory tailpiece.

What are you thinking of putting it on?

I’ll make you a deal.
If you buy one, and you don’t like it, I will buy it from you.

(As long as it’s not gold.)

my high E string is either touching at the molecular level or there's room for hydrogen atoms to get between it and the bridge it's that close. The leaning posts thread made me think of these. I saw an ad on Facebook of all places. I thought I knew somebody who had advocated them. Placing an order for one.

nickel plated will be my choice. I thought about getting the aged version (I forget what term they used)

This is my Midtown Custom.
Nashville bridge.

Compare the string angle with the factory tailpiece raised up, or the Lightning tailpiece slammed to the body.
It’s even less.

Yes, I was able to lower the bridge slightly, but that Lightning tailpiece solves every problem a TOM might have.

OK, seriously, I’m stuck on the idea of anchoring the strings as low as possible to reduce the bending load on the tailpiece posts.
Top-wrapping magnifies that.

If you’ve never had the wood crush and the posts lean in the top of a Gibson guitar, then it’s not a problem for you.
I have.
And I’ll never do it again.

Geometry says it’s a better mousetrap. Have cake (tailpiece screwed way down) and eat it, too (strings not contacting the back of ABR).

Sometimes people make things to solve problems that don’t exist. Sometimes they make things that actually solve problems. This one, IMO, is the latter. Gotta try one.

For the love of God just top wrap the dang fangled thingamajigger !
Joking !
But in all seriousness, top wrapping gets you more string contact on the hardware ....
I feel like I just walked into a minefield....
