Hello everyone! I am 17, I enjoy playing and building guitars. Recently dad said I could get another guitar lol! I am pretty sure I want the Epiphone Les Paul Standard 50's.

That is about as much as I will be able to spend.

What are people's opinions on those? I have no idea, are the frets glued in? Would it come set up? Would the frets be decently level?

The electric guitar I have right now is one I bought on Amazon for $75, which was all I could spend at the time. I expect the Les Paul would be at least a little better than that one lol.

Any input, thoughts, opinions or anything is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Welcome :thumb: I have no idea either, best bet is to seek out shops that stock 'em and try them out/ closely inspect them.

I wouldn't expect the guitar to be fully setup. Frets will be in place . They may not be perfect but probably will need little to no work. Not saying that a dud doesn't get through because they do. Real sure it will be better than a $75 guitar. I have a 60s Standard and it has served me well. I'm in my mid 60s and have played more than a few guitars over the years.

ive said from the beginning of the IBG line that for the money, the 50's GT was the pick of the litter. great simple solid built guitar that you can still try out some things if ya like without feeling like ya sh*tcanned the resale value down the road. I put a Busby and gibson p/u's on mine i got in 2020, i havent felt the need to get any of the other newer ones cause that one covers my bases just fine. I would even suggest going on FB marketplace and seein if there's one locally avail for closer to wht i paid 5 years ago 579. a lot of people have been wooed away from 50's STD for the newer ones with the open book headstock and gibson p/u's. that are goin for , like 1200-1300 and might be lookin to off load one.

These are great guitars... far and away an improvement over anything you could get for $75.

The setup will not be perfect, but it will be quite playable.
But the same holds true for a $3000 Gibson Les Paul.

The frets will be reasonably level and you should be able to do a very good setup right out of the box.

The pickups are also good... and a great value in a guitar of this price range.

I have 3 Epiphone les Paul’s,and they are indeed very good instruments,as a few have said it may need a little setting up,but most of us here’s set up our own guitars to personal preference

It will have a big neck though as it is a 50,s

As @Spirit said about the neck.... check the profiles whether you want 50s thick or 60s thin. Also the IBG 60s come with the probuckrs 2&3 which are more aggressive than the 50s probuckers 1&2.
