I met Rick Derringer at a guitar how in Spartanburg about 14 years ago . One of the coolest guys .. He took the time to speak to a friend of mine on the phone ,,, my buddy thought I was screwing with him and told him F U pal !!! We had to actually convince him it was Rick derringer … Rick looked at us and said ,, he just told me F U !!! Lolololol.
Cool cool dude ,, sorry to see this ,, man that guy could rip a solo ,, he was clean and fast ,, he put on an exhibition at the show that day in Spartanburg … Man I m sorry to see this !!

I saw him in the early '80s at a little club, and he completely rocked the place. The Derringer Live album is a great listen even to this day. Very sad. RIP, sir.

One of my personal friends, Tom Curiale, was Ric's studio drummer for a couple of decades.

Tom was also Johnny Winter's tour drummer on Johnny's last-ever tour. Tom is probably the last man to see Johnny still breathing, as he was in Johnny's hotel room the night before Johnny was found unresponsive the next morning. That was in Switzerland.

I tried to call Tommy to give him my condolences-- he had Ric Derringer stories galore, and their friendship was a very strong and enduring relationship, built on mutual trust and admiration.

Tom didn't pick up the call. I'm not sure if he's even in town right now-- he was Mark Farner's road manager the last I heard from him.

But I'm sure the Bad News reached him very quickly, probably before the press reported it. Those kind of guys, they're on the phone back and forth a lot even when they're not actually working together.

RIP Ric Derringer. So much great music! :(

RIP Mr Derringer.

Rick was one of my favorites. Saw him back in the late 1970's when he opened for Peter Frampton. I went out and bought every album of his I could find at the time.

Sad news.
He was a good one, wrote some great riffs.
Played on a bunch of people’s songs.
Here’s a live version of a favourite of mine, which will have a different feel to it now.
Condolences to his family and friends

Rick played the guitars on Weird Al's 'Eat It'.

In fact, he played guitar on and produced Al's first six albums.
He had wide ranging taste...
Funniest guitar solo ever…
